Why do we do all this fuzz, meeting discussing and connecting here at @Almedalen? Well, from my point of view, the main reason is that only together we can build a sustainable future, including saving biodiversity such as the local hedgehogs here at Gotland. Tonight i was invited by Pär Larshans and Susanna Lind at Ragn-Sells Group to discuss nutrient management, such as reuse of nitrogen and phosphor from waste water. It was great to get inspired by and discuss with senior experts. We agreed that the important resource of nutrients is very valuable. It is strange that we today pay to buy it, usually relying on foreign countries, and then again pay to get rid of it without closing the loop. I must be taken care of better in the future! We also concluded that there is a need for collaboration between public and private actors, and in addition a political will to make the change! I think that we AFRY really can contribute when we combine great technology and sustainability knowledge with business intelligence, and collaborate with our clients. Thanks for the discussions! How can we achieve a harmonious relationship with forests by 2050? 🌳  In our report 'Forest Futures', we explore the need for a society to prioritize transparency and accountability in forest resource management.     Luckily, we can draw inspiration from present-day examples. 🌎🌍🌏 Today is #InternationalMotherEarthDay,   As Rikolto's colleague attends the World Cocoa Conference in Brussels, our thoughts turn to the beautiful places where cocoa is grown. We all agree on the importance of forests for our planet, forests breathing life into the world. 🌴🌳 As part of our cocoa and coffee programme, we promote #agroforestrysystems that help increase tree cover, protect biodiversity, improve productivity and create new livelihoods for farmers. 🌾🥕 We also apply Sustainable Rice Platform (SRP) standard to our rice production and encourage farmers to adopt Good Agricultural Practices (#GAP) that increase productivity while protecting the environment. 🌱🦋 We have adopted the principles of #regenerativeagriculture, which aims to restore degraded soil, keep it healthy, foster biodiversity and recreate an ecosystem where soil micro-organisms such as fungi, insects, bacteria and microbes can store carbon, convert waste into nutrients and retain water efficiently. 👉 But working towards more planet-friendly food production goes beyond working in the field. The WEFE Nexus highlights the interconnected relationship between water, energy, food, and ecosystems. These elements form the foundation of life, with each one relying on the other to maintain balance and sustainability. Water is vital for agriculture, food production, and energy generation. Energy is needed to pump water, power industries, and grow food. Food systems impact ecosystems, which in turn depend on water and energy for health and biodiversity. Ecosystems provide essential services like water filtration, carbon sequestration, and habitat for wildlife. A holistic approach to managing these resources ensures that we can meet human needs while safeguarding the environment.
