Why do we do all this fuzz, meeting discussing and connecting here at @Almedalen? Well, from my point of view, the main reason is that only together we can build a sustainable future, including saving biodiversity such as the local hedgehogs here at Gotland. Tonight i was invited by Pär Larshans and Susanna Lind at Ragn-Sells Group to discuss nutrient management, such as reuse of nitrogen and phosphor from waste water. It was great to get inspired by and discuss with senior experts. We agreed that the important resource of nutrients is very valuable. It is strange that we today pay to buy it, usually relying on foreign countries, and then again pay to get rid of it without closing the loop. I must be taken care of better in the future! We also concluded that there is a need for collaboration between public and private actors, and in addition a political will to make the change! I think that we AFRY really can contribute when we combine great technology and sustainability knowledge with business intelligence, and collaborate with our clients. Thanks for the discussions! 🌍 𝗖𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗦𝗼𝗶𝗹 𝗗𝗮𝘆: 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗼𝗶𝗹𝘀, 𝗠𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲, 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿, 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲 🌱 Today, we honor World Soil Day with the theme “Caring for Soils: Measure, Monitor, Manage.” Healthy soils are vital for food security, supporting 95% of our food production, yet over 33% of global soils are degraded. Here’s why soil matters: 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆: Healthy soils produce nutrient-rich food and sustain livelihoods. 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀: Soils store carbon, filter water, and host diverse organisms—one teaspoon can contain more microorganisms than people on Earth! 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲: Sustainable soil management boosts productivity and helps us adapt to climate change. At Impact Hero, we are committed to restoring degraded lands through reforestation and agroforestry. We empower businesses to make a positive impact with every transaction. From planting trees for orders or conserving biodiversity for each review they get as a business, we help integrate sustainability into your operations seamlessly. 🌳 Join us in celebrating World Soil Day by advocating for sustainable practices! How can we achieve a harmonious relationship with forests by 2050? 🌳 In our report 'Forest Futures', we explore the need for a society to prioritize transparency and accountability in forest resource management. Luckily, we can draw inspiration from present-day examples. A case in point: FSC-certified rubber smallholder farms in Thailand, where over 1,600 farmers are educating each other on sustainable practices, such as crop rotation, to boost soil health and economic resilience. Discover our report for more information on how forest stewards in Thailand, and beyond, are shaping a brighter future for the health of our world's forests: https://lnkd.in/eBGAsKwG Read the report here: https://lnkd.in/dQHQY36n Photo Credit: © FSC / Mayank Bhavesh Soni

Compelling storytelling is essential to rebrand Malaysia's very own liquid gold into something beyond crude palm oil (CPO). Otherwise, we will continue to stuck in the shadows of other seed oils and not able to show the virtue of our oil palm industry. #oilpalm #plantation #malaysia #marketing
Dear friends, This article entitled "Rebranding Palm Oil: Transforming Perceptions and Inspiring Generations" is published on 16 Dec 2024 in the Borneo Post under the Column "Unveiling the Essence of Oil Palm". It is my humble take on the rebranding of palm oil. The article discusses the rebranding of palm oil to address misconceptions and promote its role in sustainability and economic development - using the olive oil as example. It invites the stakeholders to be united with purpose and clarity to reshape the palm oil narrative - showcasing it as a highly efficient, sustainable and socially transformative crop. Drawing inspiration from olive cultivation, we can highlight its immense potential while addressing global perceptions. Transforming mindsets is a gradual process, much like Rome was not built overnight. Yet, every journey begins with a single, decisive step. This is our opportunity to inspire future generations, creating a legacy of responsible stewardship and promotion of this vital crop. The future of palm oil awaits our shared vision and mission. Shall we take this step together? The sequel, ie Part 2 (and possibly Part 3) are in the pipeline. Have a good read. Thank you. 🌎🌍🌏 Today is #InternationalMotherEarthDay, As Rikolto's colleague attends the World Cocoa Conference in Brussels, our thoughts turn to the beautiful places where cocoa is grown. We all agree on the importance of forests for our planet, forests breathing life into the world. 🌴🌳 As part of our cocoa and coffee programme, we promote #agroforestrysystems that help increase tree cover, protect biodiversity, improve productivity and create new livelihoods for farmers. 🌾🥕 We also apply Sustainable Rice Platform (SRP) standard to our rice production and encourage farmers to adopt Good Agricultural Practices (#GAP) that increase productivity while protecting the environment. 🌱🦋 We have adopted the principles of #regenerativeagriculture, which aims to restore degraded soil, keep it healthy, foster biodiversity and recreate an ecosystem where soil micro-organisms such as fungi, insects, bacteria and microbes can store carbon, convert waste into nutrients and retain water efficiently. 👉 But working towards more planet-friendly food production goes beyond working in the field. The WEFE Nexus highlights the interconnected relationship between water, energy, food, and ecosystems. These elements form the foundation of life, with each one relying on the other to maintain balance and sustainability. Water is vital for agriculture, food production, and energy generation. Energy is needed to pump water, power industries, and grow food. Food systems impact ecosystems, which in turn depend on water and energy for health and biodiversity. Ecosystems provide essential services like water filtration, carbon sequestration, and habitat for wildlife. A holistic approach to managing these resources ensures that we can meet human needs while safeguarding the environment. The WEFE Nexus calls for collaborative strategies to ensure a sustainable future where no resource is overexploited, and the environment thrives alongside human development. 🌍💧🌾 #cgiarinitiatives CGIAR Impact Area: Environmental health & biodiversity International Water Management Institute (IWMI) International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) CGIAR

After witnessing the challenges faced by arid soils, I dedicated myself to finding sustainable solutions 🌱🌍. This journey led to the development of breathable sand, a groundbreaking technology that revitalizes dry soils and boosts crop yields 🌾. The transformation involves using desert aeolian sand to create permeable surfaces that enhance water retention and soil health. This inspires me to help others achieve similar results by integrating eco-friendly innovations into their farming practices 🌿🌞. Breathable sand is the key to turning infertile lands into productive fields. Invest in Sustainability!
