Ever wonder what it’s like to see your work turned into a billboard!?? 🤔 Since starting at Susgrainable a little over a year ago, I’ve had the chance to work on tons of exciting projects. Since the day I started, Susgrainable has given me the creative freedom to explore ideas with the marketing team. From thrifting videos to a baking series, we’ve had so many opportunities to try things out and see what works in our marketing efforts. But by far, my most exciting accomplishment was designing our mural at Waterfront Station for our TransLink advertising campaign this past fall! Seeing your work displayed in such a public space for thousands of people each day was incredibly rewarding. I am so proud to have designed the ad with my talented teammates Harjeet Bilin and Daija Hutchings. However, this achievement only comes second to my favourite thing at Susgrainable. My favourite thing at Susgrainable… the team! No matter the organization, the team is the most important aspect of any role. The team at Susgrainable has got to be my favourite thing about the company. They welcomed me in as soon as I joined. We’ve shared more car chats than I can count, had a few team dinners, a couple of cold dips, and even a couple of trips to the Calgary Stampede! What’s in the future for me at Susgrainable? I'm excited about a new series I’m working on right now. This series, set to launch in the fall, aims to bring a fresh perspective to baking videos, showing that you don’t need to be an experienced baker to get started. It’s all about embracing the process and learning from your mistakes. Looking ahead, I'm excited about my future projects at Susgrainable. I can't wait to see what we achieve next. 🚀 Maybe something to do with the pretzel 🥨 👀

The past 12 months the Content Team at Fleet Feet has made some big gains on social media and these results are accelerating in 2024 (wahoo!). In the first quarter alone, we’ve already recorded 90% of the total engagements we got for 2023 and about 70% of total impressions (and 2023 was already our best year ever). I’ve been trying to put to paper what our process has been to get these results (which I’ll share below). Because while we’ve made progress on certain types of content: notably launching and highlighting product and leaning into run culture, humor and “this is me” relatable content, we still have work to do in other areas. From a first principles approach this is what we are trying to do as a team (not necessarily in order): Curiosity - Really diving into not only what is working but what is not working and why. Carving out time to go down rabbit holes and explore. External education and inspiration - Deliberately studying other brand accounts, subscribing to social media newsletters (shout out to Rachel Karten and her LinkInBio newsletter), and creating weekly structured processes for the entire team to discover, share and discuss inspiration from outside sources. Implement some of these findings into future content tests. Note that some of these “outside” sources come directly from local Fleet Feet social media managers operating their store’s accounts. Testing and validation - Launching experiments, closely following results, adjusting our hypothesis and launching again. Note this process co-exists with but is not the same as fulfilling previously agreed upon deliverables for the marketing calendar. Refinement - Further refining and challenging these ideas so they can be shared company wide and built into future brand strategy. Sharing Learnings - Unstructured weekly, and structured monthly and quarterly reporting and discussion so that we can remove what is not working, create space to double down on what is working while continuing to protect our sandbox for further testing and learning. (Because, hey what’s working now isn’t always guaranteed to work 6-12 months from now). I love getting messages like this from farmer friends or other real folks that have been in my ad campaigns! “Ha, look what my buddy just sent me. He lives in Iowa and saw this billboard with me on it. That’s the new Channel logo also, pretty cool.” I like these not only to see the work putting in work but also because I rarely get to see my images out in the wild myself unless it’s online, lol. I usually ask for PDF tear-sheets but rarely does that ask get fulfilled. It's moments like this that remind me why I love what I do. Connecting with real people and making an impact in their lives is what drives me to create meaningful campaigns.
