AS1668.2 is one of the most important standards, if not thee most important standard, that covers the minimum requirements for mechanical ventilation in Australian and New Zealand buildings. Recently revised and 🔥 off the press, CIBSE ANZ are hosting a technical session on the major changes to the 2024 revision, which will be presented by Brett Fairweather, one of the committee members involved in the revision.
In New Zealand, our building code clause G4 Ventilation references AS1668.2, and while only the 2002 revision and for extraction, many of us involved in building mechanical ventilation use the 2012 revision (being the latest until last week) in its entirety as an alternative solution. I had the opportunity to review the draft copy of this latest revision that was released for public commentary back in November 2023, and I was very excited to see the changes. I was even more excited to hear about this technical session, though at this stage the event is scheduled to be delivered face-to-face in Sydney, NSW.
Now, I would love to take a short mid year break and ✈️ to Australia for the event, though am unable to do so due to commitments. So I immediately made contact to find out if the event will be available online, and there is hope as this is being looked into. No promises at this stage, but 🤞.
So if you are in NZ, or any other part of the world for that matter, are involved in building mechanical ventilation and keen to attend an online session, then let’s get those 👍 to show that we are serious about indoor air quality and excited to hear about the changes to AS1668.2.
(P.s. I know that we can just read the latest revision, but it’s not the same as getting involved as a show of support to the industry and the people involved)

11/345 George St Sydney, NSW 2000
AS1668 Part 2 is one of the most important Australian Standards from a built environment perspective. It dictates the minimum requirements for ventilation in our buildings and compliance is critical to the wellbeing and safety of building occupants. That said AS1668 Part 1 also deals with safety aspects around building ventilation, and too often the two become confused.
Following a lengthy consultation phase, AS1668 Part 2 has now been revised, and CIBSE are delighted to host this important technical session, giving you the opportunity to hear first-hand from one of the committee members involved in the revision. You will get an insight into the major changes; why Part 2 has taken a further step in delineating itself from Part 1; and most importantly, what you need to do to remain Code compliant.
The presentation will be supplemented by a second presentation that reinforces the importance of good air quality as well as highlighting some of the knock on changes that might come into play in some of the tools that speak to or reference AS1668.2
Presenter/ Panellist Information:
Brett Fairweather, building services Engineer and a Director of It’s Engineered has developed knowledge and practical experience in the application of local ventilation standards through his own work and his contributions in the Committee set up to revise AS1668 Parts 2 and 4. He also chairs the AS1668 Part 1 committee.
Brett will be joined by Melinda Mandla. Melinda is the Sustainability and Wellness Director for JLL Asia-Pacific, specialising in embedding sustainability and wellness design and operations principles.
