🎯 Targeting Truth: Debunking AI & Behavior Analysis Myths 🔍Myth: "AI understands the complexity of human behavior." 🌟Reality: AI identifies patterns in behavior data through advanced algorithms and data processing techniques, but it does not "understand" human behavior in the way that humans do. While AI excels at spotting trends, correlations, and anomalies within large datasets, it lacks the nuanced comprehension of emotions, motivations, and individual contexts that humans possess.

As with any new technology, the impact of emotional AI will ultimately come down to the intentions of those who control it. As Randi Williams of the AJL explains: “To embrace these systems successfully as a society, we must understand how users’ interests are misaligned with the institutions creating the technology.” Until we’ve done that and acted on it, emotional AI is likely to raise mixed feelings.

A recent study published by Google DeepMind, has shed light on the increasing misuse of generative AI technologies. Analyzing 200+ real world incidents from January 2023 to March 2024, the study reveals some startling insights: 📊 Key Findings: 🎭 Impersonation: 22% of cases involved replicating voices and likenesses of public figures to spread false information. 🧑💻 Sockpuppeting: 19% of incidents involved creating synthetic personas to manipulate online discourse. 📢Scaling & Amplification: 17% of cases automated and amplified content distribution, spreading misinformation widely. Primary Motivations: 🗳️ Influencing Public Opinion: Over 27% of cases aimed to manipulate political narratives. 💰 Financial Gain: 21% of incidents involved using AI for financial gain, through service monetization or outright fraud. Surprisingly, 33% cases were reported to be Image Generation 🖼️ and 30% via Text Generation 📄 I've written a comprehensive analysis on this study, which can be useful to staying informed about the challenges and risks associated with AI to better navigate this rapidly evolving landscape. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. There’s no better way to explain Gen Z’s relationship with AI. 📊 On one side: · 65% of generative AI users are Gen Z · 70% of Gen Z use generative AI · 50% of them trust technology to help them make decisions 📊 Now let’s look on the other side of the coin: - 59% of Gen Z overall believe generative AI will create job loss - 71% of frequent users believe it will lead to job loss - 34% of Gen Z believe that AI is a threat to human connections What’s important to understand is that this generation is preparing themselves rather than fearing for their future. By adapting and being frequent users, they are creating a symbiotic relationship with AI, which has frequently been proven to be the best strategy in reaping the benefits of this technology.

👀 This is as wild a story as I've read in a long time. #Deepfakes powered by #AI are coming this #election season, and main tools we have to detect them don't always work. So how do these deepfake detectors function? Go inside with Cat Zakrzewski, Pranshu Verma & Kevin Schaul, my colleagues The Washington Post.

We have various AI research studies underway at Nielsen Norman Group. One study is focused on image generation, mostly using Midjourney, led by Tarun Mugunthan. (Exciting articles on users' behavioral patterns and needs to come.) 💡 One theme that's already emerging is how users are leaning into the randomness of today's tools, especially when ideating. Users are leveraging the unpredictability of the technology and using it to their advantage when diverging and exploring. (Attached are some related user quotes from the study.) A big criticism of generative-AI, especially for image generation, is the lack of user control. As tools evolve, one aspect of control will be specifying how random/unpredictable vs. constrained/predictable the user wants the results to be. #generativeai #midjourney #dalle3 #imagegeneration

** The Algorithmic Tightrope: How Primitive AI Shaped Our World** Social media algorithms, the unseen puppeteers of our feeds, are a fascinating example of how even "primitive" AI can have a huge impact. For at least a decade before AI hit the new cycles, they have curated our content, influencing what businesses we have seen, what ideas we encounter, and even our moods. These algorithms are powerhouses of data analysis, but they are flawed. Their focus on engagement leads to echo chambers and filter bubbles, dividing people instead of encouraging our social and connected natures. I would love to see linking algorithms replace the current sets of algorithms, but since anger and intense emotion drive engagement, the old business model is more attractive. The key takeaway? AI can inadvertently be harmful even while the design and programming were originally thought to be beneficial. As consumers, humans, and business leaders, we should ponder the longer-term consequences of the algorithms' influence. Let's discuss ways to alter the existing landscape and drive positivity without neglecting profit with AI! #AI #SocialMedia #BusinessStrategy #Technology

In the early 2000s, being data-driven was the buzzword. But now, with the advent of AI, we're realizing that data alone is not enough. We must build and train models that are uncanny in their likeness to human cognitive models but also superhuman in their ability to make human-like judgments with massive amounts of data. As AI and data become the background noise of industry, a balance between data-driven decision-making and human expertise is necessary. In the 2030s, we'll likely rediscover and redefine the value of human expertise, and AI will help us get there. Let's embrace this balance and continue to evolve towards a future where AI and human expertise can work together to make smarter decisions. #AI #Data #DecisionMaking #FutureOfWork
