Academia’s drive to “perish” people who don’t publish taints science for everybody. People need to start asking why the work culture of higher education promotes publication numbers and citations above everything else, including the accuracy of a study’s data and its conclusions. Workplace cultures don’t change by addressing the individual; they change by addressing the *culture*, which starts at the top of the organization and its leadership. Do we need more evidence that leadership in higher education seems to be morally bankrupt? https://lnkd.in/euceib7H

Every company, organization, institution should follow the example of Chicago Innovation's Ageless Innovators co-mentorship program. Training others, as beneficial as that is, differs from mentoring them-something I only relatively recently recognized. My message below applies to everyone of any age. Mentorship is about experience to be shared, it's about support, respect, validation, sharing professional stories, and making meaning of pivotal moments in one's life with someone you trust. When I heard about CI's program, I knew I had to join. I have learned more about mentorship as a core part of my consulting practice, Professional Development for Good. #mentors #mentorship #holisticmentorship #co-mentorship https://lnkd.in/gga9zTsX
🌟 Meet Sylvia Atsalis, a powerhouse in the Ageless Innovators program! 🚀 "Ageless Innovators is a unique forum to pass on those messages and helps to stop the needless reinventing of the wheel by younger generations." 🌱 Don't miss your chance to be a part of this transformative journey like Sylvia. Apply for Cohort 11 by the end of today! Link to apply: https://ow.ly/JbH450PXtpE Sylvia Atsalis PHD #AgelessInnovators #ProfessionalMentorship #LastCallForCohort11

Watch the Nobel Minds 2023 roundtable, with eminent minds sharing stories of their research, from key drivers to gender differences in the labor market, the mRNA vaccine development, electron dynamics through light, to the most innovative applications of quantum dots hugely relevant from a sustainability standpoint.. Gender inequality was an important theme of the discussion, great to see more women winning the Nobel Prize, Claudia Goldin standing out as the solo winner for her work on understanding gender pay gaps over decades. Further the need for more diverse role models, getting young minds exposed to career paths in academia and research, the role science and scientific thinking including the implications of being in a polarised world where scientists walk a tight rope were some notable takeaways to mull over! #nobelminds2023 #science #sustainability #genderpaygap

🚺 International Women's Day- Why highlight women in R&D? Because their brilliance fuels innovation. It’s not just about gender; it’s about unlocking potential. When we spotlight their achievements, we amplify progress, foster inclusion, and ignite curiosity. A woman that comes to mind for me is Dr. Aviv Regev: Since joining Genentech in 2020, Dr. Patel has been on the forefront of scientific excellence. As Head and Executive Vice President of Genentech Research and Early Development, she works on drug discovery and development. --------But that’s not all. ---------- She’s a luminary on multiple stages: 1) Genentech Executive Committee: Her seat at this table shapes strategy, innovation, and impact. 2) Board of Directors: Her voice resonates in pivotal decisions. 3) Roche’s Corporate Executive Committee: She bridges boundaries, amplifying collaboration. Before Genentech, she graced MIT and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. A founding co-chair of the Human Cell Atlas, she’s a beacon for aspiring scientists. But her legacy transcends titles. Mentorship courses through her veins. She doesn’t just teach; she ignites curiosity, fuels dreams, and guides the next generation. #WomenInScience #RnDExcellence #InnovationMatters

Up until now, still not alot of women pursue a career in science, technology, engineering or what is called “STEM” careers. Check this interview as an inspiration on the success stories in AstraZeneca from one of the inspirational successful women working there. #STEM #womanintechnology #womaninstem #careerinstem
Progressive changes like increasing diversity in clinical trials, together with a commitment to diversity and inclusion internally, are two of the ways AstraZeneca Canada is helping to address long-standing inequity in health sciences, but there is more work to be done. Janine Balkissoon and Shahana Safdar, PhD, senior leaders at AstraZeneca Canada's R&D hub in Mississauga, share their unique experiences navigating a career in science, the challenges they’ve overcome, and their successes in guiding teams committed to advancing clinical trials in Canada and globally. https://lnkd.in/gqxy3c7F Gena Restivo Lindsay Glassco
