Technological advancements have proven to benefit all aspects of the world successfully. One in five surgical patients will experience complications during or after their surgery. However, new advancements now allow for those odds to be reduced. Robotic surgery is a new and upcoming advancement with many features. An example of how it benefits risks for patients is helping urologists perform typically invasive procedures minimally. The urgency to pursue the area has been delayed due to various external factors such as COVID-19, but anticipation for development remains as time is given. This article is important to me because of my interest in pursuing a career in surgery. I believe it is critical to familiarize oneself with the development of their desired career path because change is a part of growth. Familiarizing myself now can help me understand in the future. What I find interesting about this article is how technology can be so precise and informed on the human body to the point where it can perform minor surgeries. https://lnkd.in/eb5FWjCP

🏥 This Week in Med School 📚 A few reflections from the third week of the surgery clerkship: 1. *Something the Lord Made.* In honor of MLK Jr Day earlier this week, I watched this 2004 HBO movie about the first successful cardiac surgery made possible by Dr. Vivien Thomas, Dr. Helen Taussig, and Dr. Alfred Blalock here at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in the 1940s. The surgical building is named Blalock and two of the colleges at Hopkins Med are called Thomas and Taussig in honor of these pioneers. Highly recommend! https://lnkd.in/e6prqKQi 2. *Minimally-Invasive Surgery.* This week I scrubbed in to a robotic cholecystectomy (gall-bladder removal) and partial hepatectomy (liver removal) which reminded me of one of my favorite Arthur C.
