Head of Talent Management @ SearcHive - Helping top Finance talent find their next career opportunity.
Having gone through many extended interview process with Accountant's, I've come to appreciate the importance of timely communication and transparency in hiring. While every organisation has its own procedures, the extended duration between each interview stage can be a challenging aspect for candidates to navigate. Long turnaround times between interviews can create uncertainty and anxiety for candidates, impacting their overall experience with the hiring process. As someone deeply invested in finding the right fit for both parties, I believe it's essential to maintain engagement as well as streamlining the interview process without compromising on thoroughness. The candidate experience doesn't end once a decision is made. Candidates who have had positive experiences, even if they aren't selected, are more likely to speak highly of the company and potentially refer other talented individuals. #SearcHive #Hiring #Finance #Accounting

What is the difference between a GOOD candidate and a GREAT candidate in an interview situation? With the strength of the Charlotte Accounting/Finance market it is important for a candidate to realize they are in a competitive situation and look for ways to differentiate themselves in the interview. One way candidates can differentiate themselves is the QUESTIONS they ask the hiring manager and how they RESPOND to the hiring manager’s answers. For example, a GOOD candidate… - Will ask a question in the interview - Then listen to the answer from the hiring manager - And then ask another question which tends to be unrelated or off topic A GREAT candidate… - Will ask a question - Then listen to the answer - And then share about specific experience they have that is similar to what the hiring manager is looking for Below is an example: CANDIDATE QUESTION – What is the biggest challenge this role will face? HIRING MANAGER ANSWER – The biggest challenge will be working with an ERP system where most of the analysis will be manual and have to be done in Excel. GREAT CANDIDATE RESPONSE – In my role at XYZ Company I worked with an antiquated system where I had to pull voluminous amounts of data and work with it in Excel using pivot tables, Vlookups, and macros. I was able to utilize my advanced Excel skills to provide some automation to this process and was able to save 4 hours off the month-end close process. I always met my reporting deadlines and was able to provide management with the data they needed to make decisions. Now you can’t do this for every question in an interview, however a candidate should have their ears open and be looking for opportunities to relate their experience back to what the hiring manager is looking for. This small interview tip could be the difference between an offer or no offer. Hope it helps. #CarolinaPRG #Hiring #Jobsearch #Accounting #Recruitment

The Best Interview Process I’ve Seen and Why It Works 🙌 🙌 I've recently posted about the lack of interview feedback and how rude and unprofessional this is from an organization. It’s simply not on. In recent weeks, I’ve been supporting an organization to appoint a Finance Business Partner, and the clarity of the interview process was one of the best I’ve seen in a long time. Here’s how it went 👇 Hiring Manager, “Steven, the interview process for this Finance Business Partner opportunity is going to be 2 stages. 1st Stage - 45 min call via MS Teams. This will be fairly informal to get a high-level understanding of their skills, experience, and personality. We'll chat through finer details of the role, progression opportunities, and organization. The interview panel will be me and one other team member. 2nd Stage - In-person interview. In-depth questions around their CV, experience, and technical abilities relevant to the job description. There will be a 10-minute presentation to prepare on a specific topic to demonstrate how they would present to key stakeholders across the business. After these stages, we will proceed to offer.” Me, "Fantastic, I will make all Finance Business Partner candidates aware of the interview process so they know what to expect." Why is this Effective? Because everyone knows what’s going on, what to expect, and the interview journey is clear from the outset. This transparency and structure leave candidates feeling valued and respected, even the unsuccessful parties. This approach not only ensures a positive candidate experience but also reflects exceptionally well on your team and organization. It shows you’ve got your SH*T together! What are your thoughts on this? #FinanceRecruitment #InterviewProcess #CandidateExperience #Transparency

🚩🚩🚩The biggest red flag in a job interview, according to hiring expert of 20 years Like a lot of hiring managers, Adriane Schwager likes to ask candidates about times in their career they've made a mistake. Usually, it's to get an idea of how you handle stressful situations and how you learn from previous errors. For Schwager, the CEO and co-founder of the hiring platform GrowthAssistant with 20 years of recruiting experience, the answer can uncover a big red flag: whether the person has low ownership of their work. In listening to the response, Schwager tells CNBC Make It that she tries to assess whether the person can own up to the mistake, or if it seems like they're making it out to be someone else's fault. Take an example where someone forgot to send something important to accounting, and it cost the business $250,000, she says. If the candidate discusses how the accident was the result of someone else not sending them the right information, or their manager not helping to provide oversight, "and it turns into someone else's fault, that shows me they have low ownership," Schwager says. On the other hand, she says, a better response might be: "I didn't send something to accounting once and it cost us $250,000. I thought I was going to lose my job. So I immediately created a calendar reminder so that I send that to accounting every Tuesday." "I believe that all situations are co-created, and we all play a part in some of this failure," Schwager says. "A company fails, your department fails — even if you aren't running that department, you still played a part in it. That doesn't make you good or bad. It just is. So be aware of your participation in that outcome, and be able to talk about the learning you had from it." Article Cred: Article Cred:
