The power of asking the right questions to accelerate learning is nothing new: the Socratic Questioning method is all about that - and it must be 2.500 years old… So, isn’t it odd that we, as business leaders, keep lacking so much skill and practice formulating the questions that will most leverage our time and our perspective to make teams reach the best possible answer to the challenges they face? It certainly sounds simpler than it is, but if we need to accelerate our business #growth or if we are dealing with seriously disruptive contexts, pushing for our team’s #agility, #autonomy and #entrepreneurship is instrumental. Then, we’re more likely to add value if we notice missing perspectives and give people the means and incentives to look for solutions, rather than if we solve matters ourselves. In a nutshell, our questions are more crucial than our answers. Maybe this approach will become a part of standard, formal business training curricula, now that more and more business tools work with question-answer interfaces. In the meantime, the Harvard Business Review has put together a thorough, helpful approach to help us self-improve. You can check it out here and, if it resonates with you, get down to practice right away! 😉
