🌟Catalonia is positioning itself as a prime destination for Chinese companies looking to invest in Europe🌟 🚗Minister Roger Torrent i Ramió participated at the China Auto Forum in Shanghai, highlighting Catalonia's strong industrial fabric, innovation ecosystem, and strategic location. 🗣He stressed that "Catalonia has a strategic position in Spain and Europe, with first-class international land, air, and port connections, a strong industrial fabric, and a prestigious innovation ecosystem." He also mentioned CHERY's recent arrival in Barcelona as a successful example of collaboration between China and Catalonia. 👤Oriol Alcoba Malaspina, the General Director of Industry, also presented the opportunities Catalonia offers as an industrial hub, specifically in the #automotive sector. Catalonia has over 350 automotive companies and a strong network of research centers, universities, and scientific infrastructures like Applus+ IDIADA and the Barcelona Supercomputing Center. 🎯The Government of Catalonia is committed to attracting Chinese companies from the mobility and health sectors through initiatives such as the China Desk, led by Qiaoshan Xue, which focuses on attracting companies in the #mobility and #health sectors. 🏭With over 200 Chinese company subsidiaries already established in Catalonia, the region is emerging as a key player for Chinese investment in Europe. Why do business and invest in Spain and Portugal? Besides being among the world leaders in tech, innovation, talent, tourism and gastronomy, their economies are also among the strongest performers in Europe. To explain in more detail what Hong Kong companies should be looking at in these two countries, Miguel Aguirre de Cárcer, Consul General of Spain, and Alexandre Leitão, Consul General of Portugal in Macao, provided a fascinating update at our country briefing on 9 April.   As the world’s second-most visited country after France, Spain received 85 million visitors in 2023, surpassing pre-Covid numbers. It is also cultivating a strong manpower pool as it is a magnet for talent from around the world.   Neighboring Portugal prides itself on its secure and safe business environment. Leitão also highlighted Portugal’s blue economy, its strategic location and innovative DNA, characterized by its citizens’ innovation and entrepreneurial spirit.   Alfonso Ballesteros Ballestero, Chairman of HKGCC’s Europe Committee, also spoke at the event about the Chamber’s mission to these two countries in late May. Last week, the Club IPA, a network of leading Investment Promotion Agencies, gathered in Zurich to share insights, tackle challenges, and shape the future of FDI, innovation, and impact. Despite being competitors, we’re also strong partners—united by a shared mission to help businesses expand to Europe with confidence. This year’s CEO meeting, hosted by the Greater Zurich Area, was especially meaningful as we welcomed Invest in Gothenburg / Business Region Göteborg AB to the alliance and reflected on the Choose Europe initiative, a testament to the power of regional collaboration. “Europe thrives when we collaborate. It’s not just about opening doors—it’s about creating a shared ecosystem where innovation and sustainability are second nature,” said Lukas Huber, a founding member of Club IPA. We also celebrated the legacy of Johanna Huurre and Sonja Wollkopf Walt, who are moving on to new adventures but leave a lasting imprint on our network. 🚀 SPRING KICK-OFF 2025 WITH ICHAM – CONNECTING BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES BETWEEN VIETNAM & VENETO Starting the new year with a meaningful event, I was honored to represent the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam - ICham as the first speaker at #INSIDE, a program organized by Venicepromex, the agency for Internationalization and Business Promotion of Veneto Italia. This initiative was supported by Assocamerestero – the Association of Italian Chambers of Commerce Abroad and Trevisobellunosystem – the Chamber of Commerce of Treviso and Belluno, Veneto. The event provided real-world insights into international markets, including Vietnam, for businesses in the Veneto region. 💡 During this event, ICHAM shared key insights into Vietnam’s market potential, focusing on three strategic sectors: 🔹 Mechanical Engineering – Vietnam is emerging as a major manufacturing hub with a growing demand for advanced technology and equipment. 🔹 Healthcare – The industry is expanding rapidly, attracting increased investment in medical devices, hospitals, and healthcare solutions. 🔹 Construction & Home Systems – Rapid urbanization and infrastructure development are opening up vast opportunities for collaboration. 🌏 Vietnam remains an attractive destination for international businesses, especially for Italian companies in general and those from Veneto in particular, given their expertise in technology, manufacturing, and innovation. 2024 European Innovation Scoreboard was published today. Denmark, Sweden and Finland remained in the top 5 ranking for the past 7 years! While Cyprus was a moderate innovator in 2021 for the next three consecutive years (2022-2024) it takes the position of strong innovator (top 10 in the ranking)! Why 8 out of 11 new EU Member States from Central and Eastern Europe occupy the second half of the ranking after two decades of monitoring?
