𝐈𝐂𝐄 𝐂𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐌 𝐈𝐒 𝐀𝐍 𝐀𝐆𝐑𝐎 𝐈𝐍𝐃𝐔𝐒𝐓𝐑𝐘. Most of the ingredients in the manufacture of frozen desserts can be categorised depending on their animal or vegetable origin. Apart from milk, major ingredients such as fruit purees, juices etc., are of vegetable origin, sourced directly from the farms and needless to mention, are directly agriculturally dependent. The other large chunk, though, is milk — ice creams have a minimum of 21% milk solids. In India, almost all of these ingredients are sourced from small and marginal farmers from the villages of our country. For many of them, this is their only livelihood and at IICMA Indian, we have been trying to empower them and uplift their living standards by procuring more raw materials. So yes, when it comes to the ice cream industry in India, we are proudly associated with the agro-industry. We support agriculture. And we are supported by it. #agroindustry #agroindustryindia Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India

Dear Sirs, Flavi Dairy Solutions' Newsletter, Issue 37, Narrates India's dairy industry evolution post-independence. The White Revolution, under NDDB and Dr. Verghese Kurien, elevated India to be the world's top milk producer by the late 1990s. The cooperative model, seen in Amul, empowered small farmers, particularly women, offering economic opportunities. Technological advancements and infrastructure improved productivity and quality. Operation Flood stabilized prices and alleviated farmer incomes. In Southern Kerala, Milma aids dairy farmers with welfare programs. India's first 24-hour grain ATM in Bhubaneshwar improves food access. The FSSAI tackles spice contamination and offers mobile testing for street vendors. Amul's success emphasizes cooperative structures in the dairy sector. Studies explore keto diet effects, probiotics and dairy innovations recognized by the World Dairy Innovation Awards. Is the milk in your morning coffee pure? In a recent milk survey in Delhi-NCR, local consumers were asked this question. 2 out of 3 respondents admitted that they doubted the purity of milk. Alarmingly, 96% believed their milk had travelled more than 250 km, affecting its quality. A decade earlier, in response to a 2006 World Bank report on malnutrition, the Karnataka government introduced eggs in the midday meal scheme. Parliamentarians who were vegetarians at the time argued eggs should be replaced by milk, but the suggestion was discarded out of fear of adulteration. But in 2018, milk re-entered the mid-day meal scheme as part of Poshan Abhiyan. However, a FSSAI study in 2019 found that 41% of milk samples did not meet quality standards. The same year, a school in UP notoriously diluted 1 litre of milk with a bucket of water to serve 81 students. In 2023, the FDA in Mumbai seized 1900 litres of adulterated milk. This points to the gravity of the situation of milk adulteration in India. Dairy farming isn’t just a business but a way of life for countless marginal farmers. Slim profit margins, market fluctuations and a lack of awareness about safe milk handling practices are some of the real struggles of our dairy farmers. At Rang De, you and I can invest in dairy farmers and enable them to adopt sustainable practices, protect indigenous breeds and integrate modern techniques. Cooperation, Not Competition: The Key to Empowering Indian Farmers! In a remarkable success story, 120 farmers from Pollachi, Tamil Nadu, led by Mr R Ranjit Kumar, have transformed their future by exporting nutmeg directly to countries like Australia, Canada, and France—without middlemen. This collective effort has not only cut out exploitative practices but has also boosted their revenues to an impressive ₹3 crore. Of course, the journey has not been without its ups and downs. Convincing the 120 farmers is not an easy task. The farmers were trained in best practices in agriculture, segregation in to export quality and the rest and thus ensuring better realisation for the product. Yes from a Rs.300 per kg to 470 per kg. They are not going to rest with these. They plan to integrate forward with value added products like jams, jelly and pickles etc that would add more money to the kitty. What’s the secret? The answer lies in cooperation. These farmers worked together to manage production, distribution, and export logistics as a united front. Their triumph showcases the immense potential of collective farming practices, proving that when farmers collaborate, they can access better markets, ensure fair prices, and take control of their livelihood. This is a powerful lesson for the Indian agricultural community: Self-reliance through collaboration is the way forward. It's time to embrace the cooperative model to unlock growth and sustainability, both locally and globally. ************** We, the Exim Group are in the business of #customs and Foreign Trade Policy Consulting, Training and Placement, #freightforwarding and #customsclearance. Transforming the Dairy Sector in India In my recent article, I have delved into key Dairy sector trends, government initiatives, successful models, and potential areas of intervention, highlighting how this vital industry supports nutrition, rural livelihoods, and economic growth in India. Wishing everyone a very Happy International Milk Day! India's dairy sector, a cornerstone of the nation's economy, is undergoing a transformative evolution. Boasting the world's largest dairy herd of over 300 million bovines, including cows and buffaloes, India produces a staggering 230 million tonnes of milk annually. This sector not only nourishes millions but also provides vital livelihoods in rural areas. Key Trends: - Adoption of modern dairy farming practices, such as breed improvement and IoT-enabled animal healthcare, is on the rise. - Value-added dairy products like ghee and cheese are gaining popularity, offering farmers avenues for income diversification. - Organized retailing is growing, enhancing supply chain efficiencies and ensuring better returns for dairy farmers. With over 80% of dairy farms being small-scale or marginal, the sector significantly contributes to rural employment and income generation. Government initiatives like the National Animal Disease Control Program and Rashtriya Gokul Mission aim to boost productivity and value addition, setting the stage for sustainable growth. Success stories like Amul and Mother Dairy underscore the sector's potential for development. Moving forward, a focus on strengthening cooperatives, adopting modern techniques, and fostering innovation is vital. Emphasizing buffalo farming, known for its productivity and resilience, alongside youth engagement, will further propel the sector towards a sustainable and innovative future. 🔗 Link to the issue https://lnkd.in/gUKeUAAw #DairySector #India #RuralLivelihoods #Innovation #Sustainability #ValueAddition #ModernFarming #Amul #MotherDairy #DairyCooperatives #BuffaloFarming #FodderDevelopment #AnimalHealth #EY #UtsavMishra #TransformingDairyIndia #1PMA
