Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi launched its first international campus in Abu Dabi last week. Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, opened a campus in Tanzania last year. Now the question arises why are IITs doing so? A couple of reasons: 1. Improving global ranking rankings: IITs fare badly in international rankings especially due to a lack of #international students and faculty. In last year's QS ranking IITs received 1.3/100 on international students and 2.9/100 in international faculty 2. Improved financial resources: IITs can charge a #premium from International campuses and that surplus can be used to fund its campuses in India. US universities are pioneers of this strategy where fees collected from international students is 2x-3x as US students Moreover, funding for IITs has been declining as the government envisages them to become self-sufficient. The same can be seen in the rise in fees across IITs. International campuses can provide additional revenue sources for the IITs. 3. Enhancing global reputation: Due to high focus within India, #iits fare badly on international reputation. Even in QS rankings, IITs scored an average of 21.9 points out of 100 in the total weighted reputation score. 4. Improved learning experience: Bringing in international #culture significantly improves the learning experience. MBA schools like INSEAD , Harvard Business School especially highlight international exposure as their #MBA program highlights. Bringing in more international students will increase students' learning horizons in IITs. This international expansion also comes with a ton of challenges. The biggest is maintaining the quality of #education and #research. IITs in India have highly selective admission criteria admitting ~1% of applicants. Hence cream of the cream studies there. However, that might not be the case for international campuses. In the next few years, the IITs plan to open in 7 countries which include: the UK, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, and Thailand. Do you think it is a good idea to open international campuses? #technology #kneeledge

If the IIMs - India’s elite business schools - had to follow the IITs and set up campuses abroad, which countries and cities would be the best targets? India’s elite technology schools - the IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology) - recently launched campuses abroad with: - Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi slated to set up a campus in Abu Dhabi - Indian Institute of Technology, Madras planning to set up a campus on the island of Zanzibar, Tanzania - Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur opening a campus in Malaysia If the IIMs were to follow, what would be the best global locations? I would prioritize locations with: 1. A significant Indian diaspora familiar with the brand 2. A growing commercial hub with increasing demand for management talent 3. Host country / city governments that can support I would consider these 5 cities as the most attractive targets for the IIMs: 1. Dubai Arguably the most attractive option given its large diaspora, strong ties with India and growth as a global business hub. There are lessons to be learnt from earlier attempts by some IIMs to have a presence and from private Indian schools with Dubai campuses 2. Kuala Lumpur A dynamic and fast growing economy with strong ties to India, that is growing as a business hub for South East Asia. 3. Singapore Singapore shares many attractive factors - diaspora, strong business hub, etc - to Dubai and Kuala Lumpur, but would be a more competitive market with strong global and Singaporean business schools already entrenched, so a differentiated value proposition is key. 4. Mauritius A financial hub for Africa with strong ties to India, this could focus on an MBA in Finance, similar to the IIMK Post Graduate Programme in Finance (PGP-Finance) 5. Nairobi The Kenyan capital is well diversified in terms of economic sectors and is emerging as a technology hub for Africa with global tech giants setting up hubs here. Like Mauritius, Kenya has a strong Indian diaspora and connection. What do you think? Where do you think the IIMs should go? Why? Or should we first ask ourselves, why and whether it helps them to go abroad? And what can the IIMs do to strengthen their brand abroad? I’d welcome any constructive input! Happy Sunday!

Co-founder AcreRise & MySpace Realty | Chairman Policy Advocacy- National Association of Realtors India | President - Realtors Association of Odisha | State coordinator - CREDAI Youth Wing Odisha
Collaborating for a Brighter Future in Real Estate Education. We are thrilled to share that leadership team of National Association of Realtors-India had an insightful meeting with Prof. MAMIDALA JAGADESH KUMAR, Chairman of University Grants Commission (UGC). Our discussion focused on integrating real estate-related curriculum under the #NationalCreditFramework (NCrF) of the National Education Policy 2020. This initiative aims to produce more skilled resources for the real estate industry in India. By incorporating real estate-centric courses into UG and PG programs, we can equip Indian youth with the industry-specific knowledge and skills needed to either start their own real estate ventures or seamlessly join established companies. This collaboration between #NARIndia and #UGC is a significant step towards creating a robust educational framework for the real estate sector. India requires a substantial number of skilled and educated professionals in the real estate domain to reach the ambitious target of a US$ 5.8 trillion real estate market by 2047, contributing 15.5% to the GDP from the current share of 7.3%. We are excited about the potential this collaboration holds and are committed to working together to shape the future of real estate education in India. #NARIndia #RealEstate #SkillDevelopment #Education #UGC #NationalCreditFramework #NEP2020 #FutureOpportunities #RealEstateEducation #IndianInstituteofRealEstate #IIRE

International school leader, project manager and high impact educational consultant. Previous roles include school principal, governor, inspector and academic advisor to school groups / operators / owners.
Post-Covid, the UAE has seen an influx of affluent professionals and families from emerging markets as varied as Russia, India, East Africa, Central Asia and the wider Arab world – and that has made private schools an excellent investment. Private schools that offer British A-levels, the US high school diploma or the international baccalaureate have become essential for such families, as their children usually seek to secure admission at pre-eminent universities in the UK, Europe and the US. If they do not wish to study abroad, almost 100 university programmes or branch campuses now exist in the UAE, led by respected global education brands such as New York University and the Sorbonne in Abu Dhabi, the American University of Sharjah, and UK institutions such as the London Business School, Manchester University, Strathclyde University, Heriot-Watt, and Middlesex University in Dubai. https://lnkd.in/dtDq4rag

It's interesting to see how online platforms are teaming up with universities abroad to offer mixed programs. This means students can get a foreign degree while saving money on tuition fees. Combining online learning in India with studying abroad gives students a chance to experience different cultures and improve their language skills. Plus, these programs are making higher education more accessible by tackling issues like high costs and logistics. It's a positive step that gives students more options for learning internationally.
More online platforms are tying up with universities abroad to offer hybrid programmes, Manu Kaushik reports for the Financial Express. For instance, Leap, upGrad, and Great Learning have partnered with universities in the U.S., Germany, France, Canada, Ireland, and Finland. In fact, upGrad Abroad has also partnered with 80 international schools, the report adds. The programmes require students to complete part of their education online in India, and the rest abroad, thereby saving on the tuition fees. This helps them earn a foreign degree on a budget. The six to eight months period of online learning helps students get a sneak peek into the culture of the country and build on language skills. With these blended degrees, edtech firms are addressing associated barriers like high expenses and logistics. Participation from Tier 2 and 3 cities is on the rise, says upGrad Abroad’s President Ankur Nyati.
