We are celebrating our 4th anniversary! 🎉 It's safe to say that we have acquired some wisdom along the way, and now we’re ready to share it with the world: 1) Before choosing your company name, remember to check if it's not already registered trademark in Europe, especially within your field. If you keep this in mind, it can help you save some time and legal hassle down the road. 2) From time and time again, we have witnessed that the core principles of business remain the same, regardless of the company's size. Whether it's a company of two or two thousand people - all follow the same rules. 3) Experience enhances analyzation speed. Meaning - the longer you have been in the industry, the quicker you can get the gist of conversations with clients to assess what's needed and deliver it in top quality. 4) Getting an e-signature (in Latvia, we call it e-paraksts) was the best business decision one can make. It enables you to sign legal paperwork anywhere, anytime, and with just a few clicks.

A few days ago I celebrated my 13th anniversary at Lucosky Brookman. I was 26 years old when I started here about a year after law school. There were 5 employees (including Lucosky and Brookman). I knew very little about being a good attorney, had no clients, and had no perspective or expectation on how difficult it is to run or grow a small business. Today we are 50 attorneys and support staff and growing. I would like to think that I have put my stamp on the firm and helped us grow by being a good attorney, by building strong relationships in the industry with really great people I now call my friends and of course being accessible and loyal to our clients and referral sources. I believe that a firm, or any business really, is only as good as its team and I believe we have one of the best teams in the business, both personally and professionally. It is important for people who spend a lot of time working together to enjoy their environment. We have always been very protective of our culture, even when things went remote during the pandemic. I don’t believe a law firm needs to be stuffy or rigid and I have no problem saying the quiet part out loud. If you work hard you should be able to play hard and to that end we want to keep our “hallways” as collegial as possible and engage in meaningful ways with our clients and colleagues across the industry. We want to continue to be charitable and have fun doing it. We want to be creative and to solve problems. We don’t want the answer to be “no” but rather, lets work together to figure out a solution in order to achieve the clients desired result. We are known for Securities, M&A and Lending BUT have burgeoning practices in commercial litigation, white collar and insurance defense and coverage. Our shared vision of the firm’s future includes continuing to find as many ways as possible to stay connected in a remote environment, bringing on new practice areas, supporting our partners and attorneys in growing our existing ones and embracing technology, including artificial intelligence, and other technical advances that can help us cost efficiently assist our clients. If you are a like-minded individual attorney, practice group or firm I want to speak to you and hear your perspectives on the market, how best to service clients and see if we can find ways to work together.

Grateful to have recently celebrated a wedding anniversary. Every year, we hike a mile up a trail to a charming yurt with an outdoor deck that overlooks a breathtaking mountain landscape. This tradition has become a time for us to pause, reflect, and appreciate the journey we’ve taken together. Anniversaries are more than just milestones—they’re opportunities to assess our growth, challenges, and successes. Whether in relationships, careers, or other significant aspects of life, reflection offers a chance to gain perspective and set intentions for the future. As I reflect on my recent wedding anniversary, I’m also reminded that it’s just a couple of weeks past the anniversary of taking the bar exam—a perfect time to consider whether you’re on track and moving in the right direction. For associate attorneys, finding time to reflect can be tough amidst billable hour requirements, challenging work, and personal obligations. However, making time for reflection is essential. Here are some questions to consider: - Am I working on the types of projects I want? - Have I found a mentor who supports my growth and development? - Am I being compensated fairly? - Is my work-life balance where I want it to be? - Is the firm I’m at the right place for me long-term, and will it set me up for success in achieving my goals, whether making partner or transitioning in-house? If any of your answers are “no,” it’s natural to consider a lateral move. I’m happy to discuss your reflections and be a resource in any way I can. Feel free to reach out via text at 720-303-1622 or email at akappel@voylegal.com. Here’s to celebrating love, commitment, and the lessons learned along the way. May we all take a moment today to reflect on the important milestones in our lives—both big and small—and appreciate the progress we’ve made. #Anniversary #Reflection #CareerGrowth #AttorneyLife #Milestones

In just one year’s time, we had a complete staff turnover. 🤯 It was brutal. 🥵 I learned a lot in that time, and the main thing was this: never compromise your values. 💯 You can find many skilled individuals in the world but that doesn’t make them the right person for your organization. ❌ 📝📥📓Despite knowing the HR rules, employment and labor laws, and best practices for hiring and retention, we did not get our culture right until I got clear about my personal values: innovation, candor, growth, volunteerism, independence. 🚀🙏🏼🤨 From there, I was able to finally articulate how I show my values in my work, and thus, how they show up in our organization if I am leading from my authentic place: 1. We challenge the status quo. 2. We are lovingly candid. 3. We value intentional growth. 4. We give back. 5. We believe in freedom. Our next step is to refine these further as an aligned group who agrees with these basic tenets. We will start by considering the specific examples of how they show up in our day to day lives and specifically identifying the people within our community (team, clients, vendors, referral partners) who demonstrate each of them. Start small. Start with you. 🙋 What do you value? How does that show up in your work? Do you see similarities with the people closest to you in life? 🤔 Does your team share these tenets or are you constantly wondering where their motivation comes from and why they don’t enthusiastically show to win every day? 🙃
Happy 9th Anniversary from our Founding Attorney & CEO, Danielle Hudson Laughlin. Our core values drive our SAGE culture, which we demonstrate through our actions and choices, and which drive the decisions we make. Watch the entire video and learn more about core values!➡️ https://lnkd.in/e7Athn_J

Absolutely worth the read if you are an investments and wealth management professional. I echo and share many of those lessons. Particularly EQ > IQ, listening, and learning what makes people tick, motivates them, and understanding their 'Why?'. I highly encourage taking behavioral economics, psychology, anthropology, and history courses. Or reading about the human mind and emotions. This job is often a pseudo therapist, coach, and cheerleader. It's probably why my love of sports aligns so well. Today's elite athletes and the stars work with sports psychologist aka performance coaches, as much as a their nutritionists and strength and conditioning team. But it still takes a Phil Jackson and Steve Kerr to take it to the next level. This job is a 'team sport' as well and it takes all working in concert to get the desired outcome - the client is still the player in the arena. H/T Will Revels, CFA, CEPA, CFP®
Next month marks my 20th anniversary working in this profession. I suppose I’m feeling a little nostalgic looking back. This post may be more of a letter to my younger self than to young advisors. Perhaps some of this advice is useful. It certainly would have been for me if I’d been a little less stubborn and willing to listen to advice from an older advisor. https://lnkd.in/eibRxBHg

Join us in celebrating Stephanie Havenridge, Senior Staff Accountant, on her tenth anniversary with Haley Residential! We are grateful she is a part of the Haley family. We are thrilled to celebrate her, share how she has impacted our company, and hear from Stephanie about her decade with Haley. Kelly Peterson ~ Controller Which of our company's core values describe Stephanie the best and why? Building trust within your team is so important. Stephanie is someone who I can rely on to complete a task or finish a project. There is open communication and consistency in her work. Stephanie is a mentor, and she is committed to doing the best job possible. I can’t think of anyone more reliable or motivated. You’re always able to overcome any obstacle thrown your way. Stephanie Havenridge ~ How would you describe the company culture in just three words, and why? Three words I would use to describe our company culture would be: 1) Supportive – Everyone is always willing to help and give guidance when issues or challenges come up. I have never felt like I couldn’t reach out when I needed assistance. 2) Caring - At Haley, we are more than just a number. We are a part of an organization that truly cares about each employee, both professionally and personally. 3) Collaborative – Every department and property work together daily to achieve the same goals and objectives that make Haley successful. If you could pick any superpower, what would it be and why? Mindreading. Sometimes I think it would make life so much simpler.

Wise words, and a great shorten the timeline to a successful career hack to those that embrace and implement some of Blair duQuesnay, CFA, CFP®ideas! TFS👍 Just one🎯insight: "Soon, I realized that my ability to relate to clients and understand their motivations would be more important than running Monte Carlo simulations. This was a bit of a shock for an introvert whose idea of hell is a networking event. Emotional intelligence is more important than intellectual intelligence for financial advisors. If you are still in school, I highly recommend taking elective courses in psychology and anthropology. Understanding what makes people tick is the most important skill you can possess to become a successful advisor"💯
