KPF Director Leif Lomo has been selected to join NLA’s 2025 Expert Panel on Education. A notable expert in the education sector, Leif leads many of the firm’s academic projects, from detailed architectural interventions to large-scale planning frameworks. Leif is the Project Director for the King's College London Master Plan Framework and the recently announced 2045 Campus Vision for the University of Birmingham. His work allows academic institutions to prioritise strategic upgrades to their campuses, targeting areas of maximum academic benefits through architectural interventions such as extension, retrofit and new build. Focusing on the future needs of the education, healthcare and knowledge economy sector, the panel will explore how we make sure we plan and design the right spaces for high tech, life sciences and innovation that will lead the UK economic recovery in the future years. UOW is growing its presence in South Western Sydney, by moving to the Liverpool Civic Place precinct at the start of 2026. Interim Vice-Chancellor and President Professor John Dewar said UOW’s Moore Street Campus was always intended to be a temporary home, and that Civic Place will enable the University to better meet the needs of the community. Liverpool City Council Mayor Ned Mannoun said having the UOW Campus in Civic Place was a real win for the wider Liverpool community. “Council’s long-term strategy was to build a University City for the benefit of our young and ambitious community by providing them with local tertiary education opportunities,” Mayor Mannoun said. “UOW Liverpool is committed to providing opportunities for more students to participate in higher education, regardless of background or circumstances. We strive to create an inclusive learning environment that celebrates diversity and supports the success of all our students," said UOW Pro Vice-Chancellor (Health – Sydney Campuses) Professor Louise Hickman. BIG day yesterday as The Open University in Northern Ireland celebrated validation partnerships with all six further education colleges here. ✅ That means we have opened pathways to higher education in local colleges with 51 courses (Higher Education certificates, HLAs, foundation degrees and top up degrees) ✅ That matters because it’s another step towards making higher accessible to everyone, with 1200 students graduating from OU validated programmes since the partnerships began ✅ It’s great news for the local economy with courses meeting the skills gaps of the region, supporting businesses with a pipeline of work-ready students
