# Yesterday Was an Eye-Opener! My 90-Minute Emotional Rollercoaster in the Polling Queue Yesterday was a day of enlightenment, and no, it wasn't a new tech seminar or a TED Talk—it was my experience at the polling booth! In just 90 minutes, I went through a whirlwind of emotions while waiting in line to exercise my right to vote. Let me share some of the highlights: ### 1. **HEAT** Yesterday was undeniably hot and humid in Mumbai, but at 6:30 am at the polling booth, the heat of excitement among voters was more intense than the weather. The energy was palpable, and everyone was charged up, making the wait both exhilarating and sweaty! ### 2. **HILARIOUS** I witnessed some classic family drama: every senior citizen seemed to be escorted by an entourage (ratio: 1 senior citizen to 4 family members). They were devotionally being wheeled in to break the queue barriers—literally. The queue for wheelchairs was longer than the actual voting line! ### 3. **FUNNY** Some uncles, fresh from their morning walks, refused to accept their senior citizen status. But when they saw the general category line moving at a snail's pace, they tried to switch sides. Unfortunately, the security personnel weren't having it. Only political parties can switch sides that easily—pun intended! ### 4. **PAIN** In India, being young and able-bodied can be a disadvantage. You get placed last in line—from polling booths to airports. Pro tip: if you want preferential treatment, bring a senior citizen, a baby, a medical certificate, or get a wheelchair. ### 5. **IGNORANCE IS BLISS** The so-called super-intelligent early birds, standing in long queues at 6:45 am to beat the crowd, heat, and traffic, learned a lesson. Lazy bums like me, who trusted the system and went post 12:30 pm, breezed through the process. Early risers, take note: sometimes, being lazy pays off! 😜 ### 6. **EFFICIENCY** The entire election process impressed me beyond words. From a live portal to locate your booth by just typing your registered phone number, to officials at every 50 meters with mobile devices and internet access helping people find their allotted booths. Inside the booth, the officers had photographs of voters to match with the person—simply astounding! And pressing that touch button and hearing the beep was incredibly gratifying. I truly felt like an integral part of the system. What about you?
