According to FAO, the Pacific Islands, Near East, and North Africa are home to the top 20 countries where adult obesity rates are more than 30%. To eradicate #malnutrition in all its forms by 2030, nations must address the increasing concern of overweight and obesity. As an example, SUN country Costa Rica has implemented national dietary guidelines targeting dietary patterns behind #obesity. With this approach, countries like Costa Rica can significantly cut productivity losses and over 73% of hidden costs linked to obesity and related non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Addressing nutritional needs of children and supporting farmers in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh Under the framework of #AspirationalBlocksProgramme, #NITIAayog implemented the ‘Samvardhana’ project in Rampur to address the problem of malnutrition in #children and increase farmers’ income. The project has resulted in the formation of Poshan Vatikas, increased income of farmers, and improved Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR), Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) and Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) in the region. ⚠️An alarming 77% of age-standardized deaths in Pakistan are attributed to non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. This growing health crisis is exacerbated by the consumption of ultra-processed products high in sugars, unhealthy fats, and sodium. These dietary habits contribute significantly to the prevalence of NCDs, putting a tremendous strain on the healthcare system and affecting the quality of life for millions of Pakistanis. Implementing clear warning labels on ultra-processed products can play a pivotal role in combating this issue. By providing consumers with transparent information about the harmful ingredients in these foods, they can make healthier choices and reduce their risk of developing NCDs.
