Do you know what are the Grid Lines in photography for? Grids are lines that divide your frame into third parts both horizontally and vertically, creating a grid of nine equal squares where you will place the main topic of your picture. By applying the grid lines you can create a balanced and appealing composition. Whether you are shooting landscapes, architecture, or a portrait, grid lines will help you to build symmetry and balance within your photo, resulting in a more harmonious image. Grid lines give you guidance on how to place elements in your pictures. But remember, photography is an art, so it means it is ok to break the rules sometimes! How do you use the Grid lines in your photos?

I was captivated by the CONTRAST. The stark white painted brick building with black windows and fire escapes jumped out at me in the middle of red brick buildings. I was equally taken by the blue sky against the white and the REFLECTIONS in the windows. As well as the caramel colored stains running down from the black metal, adding character. When something unexpected stops you in your tracks, it must be photographed. The LINES in this composition bring your eye up as does the CROPPING of the buildings on the right as well as the stairs cropped off of the photo from the bottom . Even the windows create vertical lines. COMPOSITION is so important in architectural photography. Capturing repetition of PATTERNS and geometric SHAPES keeps the eye moving, capturing interesting DETAILS piques interest. BALANCE makes a pleasing photograph. Photography is ART. #Katebrinephotography #architecturalphotography #photographyisart #composition

There are different ways of photographing a space, just like there are different ways of photographing a person. In portraiture, some of those include: candid, lifestyle, editorial, fashion, boudoir and more. In spaces you have real estate, vacation rentals, architecture, etc. Each is shot differently. Each highlights a different aspect of the space and serves a different purpose. In architecture photography, less is more. Declutter. The more you simplify the more challenging it gets. You make small adjustments left, right, up, down. You take your time. You breath. And this is why, for me, architecture photography is my meditation. When I go out with my camera, the frame I see in the viewfinder is the limit of my visible world and, within its borders, I am its king. Don't get me wrong, I don't have any delusions of grandeur nor has my ego suddenly inflated. I'm still fine, I'm working very hard and my brain is getting enough rest. So what's the point of proclaiming a statement like this? Because in photography reality is constructed like this and in architectural photography, even more so. When I point my camera at a building and the precise point of view, light and color I have chosen for the photograph that I already see in my head are perfect, there is absolutely nothing else in the world except what I see through the viewfinder of my camera –my kingdom. And then how do you apply it to an image like this that doesn't seem to have such a momentous look? Well, because half of this photograph is actually negative space: the color of the sky and the building have as much visual weight and they must be balanced in the eyes of the observer. No element of the frame is trivial, even negative space. The architecture represented in an image depends on an attentive look to seduce the viewer and, to achieve this, there are no formulas or shortcuts.
