Even advanced English learners struggle with using prepositions in the proper context. Some of the ways native English speakers use prepositions do not translate well to other languages. Sometimes the only way to learn these is by forcing yourself to begin using them in your practice. The lists below describe using prepositions for place and time.

I help language teachers enjoy their work | Making teacher wellbeing a priority | Well-being coach | Teacher Trainer | CELTA tutor at Art of ELT
⁉️ Why is being a language teacher so hard? ⁉️ 🤔 Here are some of my ideas: - unreasanable expectations - crazy workload - emotional labor - admin - low pay - insecurity (for those employed by language schools and or working online) - low social status What would you add to the list? What bugs you about the job we love? #languageteachers #ELT #teacherwellbeing #ArtofELT

Educator | Author | Independent Thinker | Writer | Teacher | I am working to bring positive change through quality education.
Hiring only native speakers as teachers It's not cool, and it's actually illegal! In fact, teaching isn't just for native speakers. It is a universal phenomenon. Now, there are amazing teachers all over the world who aren't native #English speakers but have tons of wisdom to share. They write books, do research, and bring fresh ideas to the table. Moreover, several countries value them and learn from their knowledge. So why not in the #Middle East? 🌍 In places like #Europe, #America, and Canada, they value knowledge and skill over where someone was born. So why should our kids miss out on learning from great teachers just because they're not native English speakers? 🚫 Let's say no to discrimination and give every teacher a fair opportunity. It's time to celebrate diversity in education and give our kids the best learning experience they deaerve.

How do you spark creativity in young students? ✏️ This is a great question. I was a High School Spanish Teacher back in my day. I not only taught Spanish grammar and vocabulary, I taught reading and writing. I had a way of blending it all together. We focused on a particular vocabulary, like going to the airport. Students memorized the vocabulary and translated stories that I made up, on that topic. Then they had to answer short essay questions, in complete sentences, in Spanish. Currently, I work, part-time, as a Substitute Teacher. I teach English language arts and writing at every opportunity. I choose a crazy topic that might amuse the class. I suggest opening sentences, such as once upon a time. I do a little scaffolding with the structure of a story, i.e., the intro and supporting paragraphs. I brainstorm with the class to choose appropriate verbs, adjectives, etc. that would enhance their stories. Then I turn them loose. They come to me to correct their mistakes. Lastly, they must read it to the class. That puts pressure on the students to take their writing seriously. When we make learning fun and rewarding, students will embrace what we teach.
