Just like the rest of the European renewable energy industry, it seems that the EV market is slowing down after an incredible 2023. Factors such as market saturation and EU tariffs on Chinese imports are thought to be the predominant contributors to EV sales declining during H1 2024. See that CALSTART graph for electric Cargo Vans (see first comment below)? It's going to look the same for electric MD and HD in a short window of time, as TCO parity is reached with diesel. "...the US has seen the deployment of more than 14,000 battery-electric cargo vans in 2023, with a significant surge of 11,835 units deployed in the first half of that year, alone. America itself has already found enough lithium domestically for 4 Americas of EVs. BYD is setting up a factory in Mexico to supply the US. 100 lithium projects across the world are going to keep oversupplying and slashing the price of lithium. The future of Lubricant Companies suppliers in the Automotive industry We have seen in articles and news, the lubricant companies showing their willing to try to adjust their businesses in a complex environment ahead due to highly increase in the electrification process inside the automotive industry. Countries such as China are already seeing the lubricant consumption decreasing due to changes in the shape of the fleet, where as an example more than 30% of new passenger cars selling are electrified currently and increasing. Will the alternatives the automotive lubricant suppliers are now working on be effective? Examples: Trying partnerships such as with start-ups in two-wheel electric companies to develop electric motorcycles linked to current/past lubricant supplier image. One new business. Trying to add different products in their portfolio to sell for the customers, such as car care (car cleaners, Shampoos, windshield, wax, etc.), automotive coolant fluids, filters, other products for cars and bikes, with no petrochemical base. Changing their businesses into another direction in future markets little explored and with great potential, as Eolic and general Industrial, which have space to increase with petroleum-based lubricants. R&D to maximize the fluids formulation to fill all an electric car needs with a single, simple, efficient and profitable product offer for OEM´s Electric Car Customers. Other. Think about it...

As I have maintained over many years, ambiguity from OEMs will have a drastic effect on supply chains when it comes to #electricvehicles Moreover, the uncertainty passed down the supply chain will come back as a chicken and egg problem when the shift to EVs picks up again. The case of SK Group’s battery spin-off is a case in point. Having taken a bullish step of building capacity in anticipation of an EV boom in the USA market (largely served by major US brands), it has been let down by the US car OEMs, as they, “failed to produce EVs sufficiently attractive to mass market consumers to meet their own bullish sales projections”. E.g. “until as recently as last year, General Motors was forecasting it would sell 1mn EVs in 2025. It sold just 21,930 in the second quarter of this year.” As batteries keep getting cheaper and EVs reach price parity in several segments, it is the time for the #automotive industry to push the pedal to the metal than be stuck in a cloud of confusion. PETROL CAR WAS JUST A TRANSITION FROM HORSE-DRAWN CARRIAGE TO ELECTRIC CAR When I read or hear opinions against electric vehicles based on the difficulties of its implementation (low range, shortage of lithium, high prices, insufficient power of the electricity grid, cars that park on the street, lack of public charging points, ...), it comes to my mind what the early days of the change from animal-drawn vehicles to internal combustion engine vehicles must have been like. In year 1900, the United States had only 4000 gasoline-powered automobiles (compared to 20 million horse-drawn carriages), but gasoline was still considered a waste byproduct of kerosene production. In these early years, before dedicated petrol stations existed, motorists bought petrol from hardware stores, general stores, pharmacies, and even blacksmiths. These businesses had pre-existing relationships with refineries through the sale of kerosene, used for stoves and as fuel for lighting. Stored in 5-gallon (19-liter) cans, stacked curbside or in large above-ground tanks, the fuel was poured into the car's petrol tank using a funnel with a chamois as a filter. A few enterprising (and intrepid) salesmen sold gasoline out of wheelbarrows fitted with hoses. Due to the fire danger and a series of unfortunate mishaps, public concern and regulators forced the sale of gasoline to dedicated retail facilities, outside of city center, creating a new type of business called a petrol station. Both the petrol station and the petrol pump would evolve into what we now know as the modern petrol station. Today, there are 284 million cars in the United States (168,000 petrol stations). In Europe there are 292 million cars (140,000 petrol stations), and in Spain about 26 million cars (11650 petrol stations). New technologies and innovations always lead to progress and changes in habits. For me, this is the biggest obstacle to the implementation of electromobility and that is "human". Those of us who do believe in the electric vehicle have to continue "proselytizing", it is only a matter of time. Technology and the growth of the market will go hand in hand and find solutions to the challenges we face today. So the "electric car" will change everything. It's much more than just a cool new car, quiet and easy to drive. It is charged with renewable energy such as wind and sun. The electrification of transport will not only contribute to descarbonitzin the planet, it will also change our mobility habits and the current energy model. Let's compare Jan 2023 - June 2023 with Global #EV sales for this year. YoY continuously growing, unsurprisingly more saturated markets grow slower. Europe: slowest as Germany removed subsidies. Rest of the World: fastest growing as they don't need to enter the tariff war against China. #Battery demand continues increasing.
