The flow battery market has seen tremendous growth in recent years - manufacturing capacities have expanded, and we are witnessing a significant increase in deployments of flow batteries across the globe. The recent launch of 200- and 400-megawatt-hour flow batteries marks a new era for large-scale energy storage. Whilst vanadium flow batteries have been the staple for many years, the past two years have seen the first megawatt-hour deployments of iron-chromium batteries. This shift signals a broader acceptance and integration of what Redox One believes - that Iron-Chromium Flow batteries are one of the most promising solutions for Long-Duration Energy Storage. The technology is cheaper, safer and cleaner than alternatives. Redox One is currently testing a demo scale containerised battery at Arxo Metals in South Africa's North West Province, edging us closer to the final solution. Lithium to dominate Energy Storage Growth through 2030, then innovative alternatives accelerate Lithium batteries represents 95% of new grid storage. Li-ion batteries are approaching 1% of grid capacity. #Lithium #batteries can make money in several ways including frequency-response management, price arbitrage and pearl hour capacity. Growth is in longer average storage durations, that range from two to four hours. Alongside the rise of Li-ion, the market is testing long-duration storage technologies. These span 5–24 hours and include flow batteries, zinc-based chemistries, and gravity- based storage methods. DNV Power Systems Report indicates mainstream market entry for these solutions around the latter half of the 2030s, with a long-duration capacity target of 1.8 TWh by 2050. #gridstorage
