Today we reflect on and celebrate Indigenous traditions and heritage, in recognition of International Day of World’s Indigenous Peoples. Indigenous peoples of the world are creators, inheritors and practitioners of rich, sophisticated and unique cultures and ways of sharing knowledge. This year’s theme is protecting the rights of indigenous peoples and one of those rights is the right to be different. Indigenous peoples of this continent are the oldest story tellers in the world. We are guided by Ma Mua Kaa Hua - a whakatauākī penned by Kapi Peita and Teariki Tuiono, which means our past inspires our future. 🎨 Embracing the Colors of Change this Holi 🎉 As the vibrant hues of Holi adorn the canvas of our lives, it's a time for reflection and renewal. In the spirit of this joyous festival, I find myself pondering on the essence of transformation and growth, even in the face of unexpected challenges. In every journey, there are moments where we encounter individuals who may not embody the qualities we expect and don't quite align with the standard definition of effective leadership. While initially disheartening, we come to realize that such experiences are inherent in the tapestry of professional life. Drawing from years of diverse experiences, I've learned that adversity often serves as a catalyst for personal and professional development. It's during these times that we are tested, pushed beyond our comfort zones, and given the opportunity to evolve. Just as each color adds depth and vibrancy to the celebration of Holi, every challenge presents a chance for growth and learning. It's May, and oSTEM is celebrating Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) Heritage Month! This month is dedicated to honoring the experiences, cultures, influences, and humanities of Pacific Islanders and Asians, including South Asians (Desi), along with many other Asians who may not typically be acknowledged under the umbrella term "Asians." We also acknowledge the oversimplified nature of grouping such diverse cultures together and believe that each culture deserves individual appreciation and celebration.
