Anodic Protection Anodic protection (AP) is a technique to control the corrosion of a metal surface by making it the anode of an electrochemical cell and controlling the electrode potential in a zone where the metal is passive. AP is used to protect metals that exhibit passivation in environments whereby the current density in the freely corroding state is significantly higher than the current density in the passive state over a wide range of potentials. Anodic protection is used for carbon steel storage tanks containing extreme pH environments including concentrated sulfuric acid and 50 percent caustic soda where cathodic protection is not suitable due to very high current requirements. An anodic protection system includes an external power supply connected to auxiliary cathodes and controlled by a feedback signal from one or more reference electrodes. Careful design and control is required when using anodic protection for several reasons, including excessive current when passivation is lost or unstable, leading to possible accelerated corrosion. #oil #gas #iraq #oman #electricalengineering #electronics #petrochemical

The mechanical properties of aluminum can be negatively affected by dissolved hydrogen in the metal. To mitigate this, a rotary degassing process introduces an inert purge gas (in this case, nitrogen) into the melt. The circulation created by the rotor allows the hydrogen to diffuse into the inert gas bubbles. FLOW-3D CAST allows the process engineer to model process parameters such as rotor design and speed to achieve optimal mixing and cast quality. #metalcasting #flow3dcast #flow3d #cfd #casting

With these tests, we can determine the corrosion rate (CR) and efficiency of corrosion inhibitors. But these tests cannot provide corrosion engineers with enough information to be used as a predictive tool, since what is obtained is the CR in a very short testing time. Gustavo Luis Bianchi, Veronica Acosta and Carlos Seijas proposes the use of two more appropriate test methodologies, the rotating cylinder electrode (RCE) and the flow loop (FL), to evaluate the performance of the corrosion inhibitor. Cathodic protection is crucial because it controls the corrosion of metal surfaces, extending their lifespan. It's especially vital for infrastructure like pipelines, ship hulls, and offshore platforms, where corrosion can lead to significant safety and financial implications. Love the animation 👍🏼
Cathodic corrosion protection (CCP) is a technique used to control the corrosion of a metal surface by making it the cathode of an electrochemical cell. There are two main types of cathodic protection: 1. Sacrificial Anode Cathodic Protection (SACP): In this method, a more reactive metal (anode) is attached to the metal structure to be protected (cathode). The anode corrodes instead of the protected metal. Common sacrificial anode materials include zinc, magnesium, and aluminum. 2. Impressed Current Cathodic Protection (ICCP): This method uses an external power source to provide a continuous direct current to the metal structure. The current flows from an inert anode to the protected metal, reducing its tendency to corrode. The anodes used in ICCP systems are usually made of materials like mixed metal oxides, platinum, or silicon iron, which are more resistant to corrosion. Cathodic protection is widely used in various applications, including pipelines, ship hulls, offshore platforms, underground storage tanks, and reinforced concrete structures. The primary goal is to prevent the metal from losing electrons (oxidation), which is the fundamental process of corrosion. #corrosionservices #corrosionengineer #cathodicprotection #cathodicprotectionengineer #cathodic_protection #cathodicprotectionsystem #cathodicprotectionequipment #CPspecialist #cathodicprotectiontraining #CPsystem #ICCP #corrosion #nace #cp #oilandgas #pipeline #cpequipment #cpmanufacturing #corrosion #corrosionprotection #corrosionprotectionengineer

🌟 Dedicated QA/QC Mechanical and Welding Inspector Committed to Maintaining High Standards and Quality Control
What is the significance of interpass temperature control in multi-pass welding? It minimizes the risk of hydrogen-induced cracking 1) Hydrogen Source: During welding, various factors like moisture on the base metal or decomposition of welding consumables can introduce hydrogen into the weld zone. 2) Hydrogen Trapping: Rapid cooling associated with low interpass temperatures can trap this hydrogen within the weld metal and the Heat Affected Zone (HAZ). 3) Hydrogen’s Nefarious Role: Trapped hydrogen can combine and form hydrogen molecules. These molecules exert pressure within the metal, leading to the formation of cracks – known as hydrogen-induced cracking. #welding #hydrogen #metal #inspection #inspector #nondestructivetesting #ndtinspection
