On 8th-9th May, the TSLB (Tecnici Sanitari di Laboratorio Biomedico) held its 2nd National Congress in Rome, Italy named in honour of our colleague and past IFBLS Board member Alba Marzo who sadly died last year. Marie Culliton, President of IFBLS, along with Fernando Mendes, President of EPBS - European Association of Biomedical Scientists were invited to present their International Associations and to participate in a round table discussion on the following topics: 1. Educational system, basic training, specialist training, master, specialisation... How do you become a BLS in your countries? After the qualification, what training courses are available? What are the systems to take inspiration from? 2. Description of the National Health Service and role of BLS 3. The Biomedical Laboratory Scientists in research fields. 4. Relationship with other healthcare professionals 5. Professional development. How do you keep your skills update? Does the ECM system also exist in Europe? Are there any other types of professional training? 6. Attractiveness to study and professional progression 7. Professional responsibility at a legal level The session was very well received. The Italian Biomedical Scientists are on the right path in their development of the profession and know they have support in their work from IFBLS.

IRPA 16/69th HPS Annual Meeting: IRPA Late Abstracts Closes 15 April! It has been 51 years since the United States hosted a full IRPA congress, which means that for most of us, the IRPA 16/69th HPS Annual Meeting is the only chance to present at IRPA in our home country. Abstracts will still be reviewed by the Main Area leaders and rejected abstracts will not have another opportunity to be submitted. 🏅 Congratulations Dr. Rob Wolfs on the 2024 RILEM Association Gustavo Colonnetti medal! The department of the Built Environment is very proud! 👏 Rob Wolfs is an Assistant Professor in the unit of Structural Engineering and Design of Eindhoven University of Technology. His research and teaching focuses on digital design and manufacturing strategies for buildings and bridges. Through the adoption of these new technologies, he aims to increase the sustainability and productivity of the architecture, engineering, and construction industry. Key topics concern the application of robotics in construction, with a focus on 3D concrete printing, and numerical modelling, machine learning, and (structural) optimization.

Growing in Europe!

CVDLINK partners recently met in Tampere, Finland, for our first plenary meeting. Representatives from all 19 partners attended, bringing together researchers, clinicians, tech developers, and ethicists from across the EU and Israel for a productive two day meeting. The meeting objectives included:  👉 Share knowledge and streamline efforts to achieve project objectives  👉 Provide progress updates on work completed so far  👉 Plan forthcoming scientific and technical workshops  👉 Discuss ways to boost the project’s visibility and connect with varied stakeholder communities The group achieved these objectives and more. Partners presented on a range of topics, including the project’s approach to ethical and secure data management, plans for future clinical trials in seven countries, updates from ethical committees, and updates on the landscape analysis for challenges hindering the uptake of data sharing.
