If you had a rough start to your day, here's a tip: Chop the day into 4 quarters. Just like any good sports team, you gotta know it's not how you start, but how you finish. Just because I stunk in the 1st quarter, doesn't mean I can't make up for it later in the day. This is how I think about it: I'm awake ~16 hours per day. That's 4 separate 4-hour quarters. If my 1st quarter stunk, that's OK. Still plenty of time left. Sometimes it just takes one good quarter of the day to make it a major win. So if you had a rough start... There's 3 more quarters in the day for you to come back.

Got to go to the Colts game last weekend with all our kids. Great having all of them home! The game was not pretty, high scoring or exciting. There were no big pass plays, no long running plays, no pick sixes. But the Colts won. They did what they needed to do to win. We can say the same thing about success. It’s not the exciting things that lead to success. Whether it’s your career, your health, your eating or whatever. It’s the boring, fundamental things that you have to do day in and day out that lead to success. It’s the things you don’t want to do but you make yourself do them anyway. It’s doing those things consistently. It’s the things that don’t pay off right away. It’s not easy. It’s not exciting. Because it’s the mundane, boring things. It’s hard to continue doing those things day in and day out. But that consistency and persistence pay off in the long run. And that success is exciting! P.S. Grew up a Dolphins fan in the Marino era!

Friday mood. As we move into the holiday weekend, I think about all my friends and colleagues who are in transitions right now. It's a slog; it goes in fits and starts. Consistency is a challenge. And weekends suck because no one else but you is thinking about you or your situation. We feel no movement on those days. Long weekends exaggerate that feeling. It reminds me of a recent comment by one of my favorite New York Rangers players, Chris Kreider, about one of his young teammates. Kreider describes how in the playoffs you don't necessarily step up your game, but you lean on your habits - your great habits are what help you to focus and succeed at times of greater stress. So for those of us in transition - lean on your habits. They will lift you up and allow you to navigate the ups and downs. Keep on keepin' on. Check out the interview here:

There is always someone bigger than you... We lost yesterday, away to the same team we beat last weekend at home; tough, as you know you've got it in you to win, but it was a well fought game and Scunthorpe deserved the win. This picture is not from that game - this was my rookie season. It stemmed from a misunderstanding about the defence scoring points with what's called a "safety" - as far as I can tell, it means completing a tackle behind their goal line. Turns out, doesn't count if you pick the ball carrier up and take him there first. We can get carried away, sometimes, with our successes and displays of our strength - here, physical strength; on much of social media, awards and "client wins" or whatever other flex is deemed shareworthy - and usually, when that happens, something comes along and reminds us that we've still got a long way to go in life. For my team, yesterday, it was losing the game. For me, a few seasons back, it was number 79... Nothing wrong with being proud of your work - just remember, you're not the finished article, and there's always someone bigger/quicker/brighter than you out there, ready to take your place at the top of the pile. Stay humble, keep learning, keep growing. Happy Monday everyone; keep going 💪 #frontrow #football #keepgoing #happymonday #humble

You learn more and have more fun when you celebrate others’ wins vs. viewing them with envy. Stop comparing your journey to everyone else’s. Run YOUR race. Support others who are running theirs & recognize they aren’t running yours.
