Did you know...you can hold a Masters degree and therefore qualify to teach at any community college within your subject area, but still be deemed unqualified to teach high school students? What if California provided a fast track to a preliminary Single Subject teaching credential to anyone holding an accredited Masters degree, and required just one methods course to clear it? What if we replaced an unpaid "student teaching" requirement with a paid teacher apprenticeship program? We need to reform teacher credentialing to best promote dual enrollment, prepare for the looming teacher shortage, and ensure high quality education for our secondary students! #teaching #dualenrollment

🌟"What's the SCoPE?"🌟 ⚡️We have officially hit 'SCoPE' season at RLHS! Student Counselor Parent Engagement meetings are the key building blocks of our Academic and Career Planning program at the high school level.⚡️ 🏆For the first four months of the school year, we meet with each student at every grade level starting with the 12th graders. Parents are highly encouraged to attend these meetings with their student.🏆 🧩Data collected from individual ACP meetings in 8th grade ignites the process. From there, the development of an individualized 4-YEAR plan in high school through yearly SCoPE meetings defines the pathway, and prepares our young adults for their post-secondary plans. High schoolers are provided the tools to KNOW (9th), EXPLORE (10th), PLAN (11th), and GO (12th).🧩 ♟️Over the course of 4 years of SCoPE meetings, elective course recommendations, youth apprenticeship opportunities, FAFSA + scholarship information, and job shadow options are just a few of the things we share with families to assure each student is provided with the #RLAdvantage prior to graduation.♟️ 👍See you at your SCoPE meeting!👍 #SchoolCounselor #AcademicCareerPlanning #Relationships #Pathways #Goals

#ThrowbackThursday #CTEWorks: We (Justin Dayhoff) also implemented transformative reforms, including the Maryland Works and Maryland Tutoring Corps programs, designed to foster strategic partnerships throughout the state to close opportunity gaps. These initiatives are addressing post-pandemic challenges and future needs, earning recognition from federal leaders as exemplary models for leveraging pandemic funding for lasting educational impact (https://bit.ly/4hFoP08). "In June 2023, Maryland awarded $12.2 million in ESSER state set-aside funding to six local education agencies (LEAs) and three statewide intermediaries through the Maryland Works initiative. The grants were designed as seed funding to build new partnerships, establish youth apprenticeship intermediary organizations and create new programs for youth. Although the grants served only half a dozen LEAs directly, all 24 districts have benefited from support by a statewide youth apprenticeship intermediary, which helps districts — particularly those in rural areas — build capacity, identify and engage interested students, manage scheduling challenges and more. Maryland Works has already demonstrated tremendous success. The number of youth apprenticeships statewide increased from 560 to 1,100 in just one year and is on track to reach the statewide goal of more than 3,000 new apprenticeships and 400 business partnerships (https://bit.ly/48IuPBs)." (Rooting for Richard W. Kincaid and the CTE Ninjas as they work to ensure implementation fidelity and achieve lasting, student-centered outcomes at scale).
Assistant State Superintendent | Division of College and Career Pathways at Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE)
40 states have collectively dedicated $1.1 billion in #ESSER set-aside funds to support college and career readiness, including career/college advising, work-based learning, out-of-school time programs, early postsecondary opportunities and industry-recognized credentials. Through the Maryland Works competitive grant program (http://bit.ly/3YFvpMP), the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) was able to rapidly catalyze the youth apprenticeship system across our state. I'm so proud to have this work included in the latest CCSSO publication--and for the dedication of Tracy Kyttle and her team of CTE Ninjas who supported the efforts of so many people to bring high quality opportunities to Maryland students. The University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee College of Education is on the frontlines to strengthen teaching in Manatee County. The Community Partnership Schools program, which has been at Manatee Elementary since 2020 and at Daughtrey Elementary since fall 2023, has brought, among other services, community health clinics to the two campuses, a food pantry to Manatee Elementary and, from USF, student interns, faculty support and graduate-level teacher leadership academies that support teachers at the two schools to develop the knowledge and skills to serve as campus-level teacher leaders. "A bonus is the many opportunities, like internships and other hands-on training that our participation has created for USF students preparing to enter the teaching profession in Manatee or elsewhere, especially at schools with the greatest needs," said program co-founder Brett Kemper, Sarasota-Manatee regional vice chancellor and vice provost of academic affairs and student success. Christel House Indianapolis' IndyTeach program has received national accreditation according to the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP), a national accrediting organization. It acknowledges a program that “prepares effective educators who continue to grow as professionals and has demonstrated the commitment and capacity to maintain quality.” The unique IndyTeach program prepares talented college graduates to become exemplary urban teachers. IndyTeach is an alternative teacher preparation program unlike any other teacher prep program in Indiana. Christel House Indianapolis and IndyTeach are committed to helping prepare educators to better serve students. Through the program, apprentice teachers gain invaluable experience in the field of education, while working alongside a mentor teacher. Over the course of a year-long paid apprenticeship, IndyTeach apprentices undergo 3 key stages of transitional development to gain the knowledge and skills of a practicing teacher. Upon completion of the program and passage of the CORE exams, apprentices qualify for an Indiana Teaching License. IndyTeach has been awarded accreditation through 2031. National accreditation was a heavy lift, according to Emily Masengale, CEO at CH Indianapolis. “It’s the same process that higher education institutions (colleges and universities) obtain accreditation through. We’re proud of the IndyTeach team!” David Harris | Emily Masengale | S'mamkele Labane | Raina Mansukhani | Caitlin Teague | Sarah Weimer, EdD | Carolyn Haythorn | Tal Gilad | The Mind Trust | Global Schools Forum | Teach For All | Christel House Indianapolis | Christel House Jamaica | Christel House International | Christel House India | Christel House México | Christel House South Africa #IndyTeach #Teaching #MoreThanASchool #FromClassroomsToLife #Education
