What is an Official Plan? It is a long-range planning document that sets out goals, objectives, and policies to guide growth and development in a municipality, and directs how land in a municipality should be used. Land use planning policies are complex and can include many aspects, from where and what types of housing are permitted, to the kinds of retail or industry that are needed, to what type of services are required to support the residents of a municipality. My Planning Team at the Town of Essex, Ontario, in collaboration with our planning consultant WSP in Canada, is hosting three (3) Open Houses to present and review the Town's Draft New Official Plan. Our Official Plan is intended to fulfill certain planning objectives over the next 25 years and is guided by the following principles: o Building on our Agricultural Strengths o Leveraging our Location for Employment o Elevating our Unique Communities o Achieving a Sustainable and Resilient Town If you are a resident, landowner, business, or tenant in the Town of Essex (Essex Centre, Harrow, McGregor, Colchester, Gesto, and everything in between!), please consider dropping in to one of the Open Houses or reviewing the information on our Project Webpage. Your Community. Your Vision.
Join us for the Town of Essex Official Plan Open House Events! We are inviting the public to attend an open house event to review and provide input on the Draft New Official Plan and Colchester Secondary Plan. For all my Senior friends from NorthJersey.com and the Greater Bergen County Community Actions - NJ program offers up to $15K in home renovations for vulnerable groups Healthy Homes program offers up to $15K in home renovations for vulnerable groups For those who find themselves struggling to afford the necessary home repairs and improvements to keep their environment safe, there's a new program that aims to help. Greater Bergen Community Action has launched its Healthy Homes program, an initiative that aims to remediate environmental hazards in 140 residential units throughout Bergen and Passaic counties. For each, the organization is offering up to $15,000 worth of essential home improvements — to address risks like mold, lead and structural deficiencies — to vulnerable income-eligible populations like seniors age 65 years and older, disabled individuals and families with young children. It is funded through a grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and Program Director Avery Headley said GBCA was one of just 20 organizations nationwide — and one of two in New Jersey — to receive the grant. https://lnkd.in/e2XMrhh7 https://lnkd.in/eVWB_HS4

Look around, and we’re starting to see the first signs of spring appear – new buds, lighter evenings, vibrant greens replacing the browns and greys of winter and, most importantly, the feeling of hope and new possibilities that always comes with warmer weather. It’s this feeling of hope and possibility we’re focusing on this issue, from the richness and inspiration on our doorsteps – our beautiful, diverse landscape – and how this is reflected in our city’s culture and community. Our outward-facing, trading, innovative forefathers made Peterborough and the surrounding area a magnet for settlers over the centuries, and this is a status we enjoy to this day as an ever-evolving, growing city rich in grassroots culture, arts, business, tech and learning. This issue, we’re featuring a range of people and projects that showcase some of the very best aspects of our communities and landscape. There’s a special feature on photographer and paramedic Chris Porsz – a regional treasure who has captured (and cared for) Peterborians for decades. His ‘Reunions’ collection of photographs became a global, viral hit – and we revisit some of his most iconic pictures, and the stories behind them. We also caught up with Matthew Bradbury, the CEO of Nene Park, to find out what Peterborough’s favourite green space has in store for us in the year ahead; we chat with the city’s poets; and we delve into a brand new centre for green technology being built right here, to enhance and future-proof learning and skills. For many, our region and city has been a haven – and we’ve got that covered, too, from refugees to artists. Read about the extraordinary Krystyna Lewandowska – Polish Jewish resistance fighter who, after World War II, found peace and freedom here, and John Clare, the 18th century peasant poet who overcame crippling class barriers to create work that endures to this day. We all know how special Peterborough and its people are – and we like to think of this issue in particular as celebrating that. Dig in, discover more about your city and its inhabitants, and what it has to offer. Click here to read the March 2024 edition: https://lnkd.in/eKN-xNR8
