The Iowa National Guard had the honor of assisting in the special presentation of the Silver De Fleury Medal to 99-year-old WWII Veteran Henry Langrehr at the 224th Brigade Engineer Battalion in Davenport, on August 18, 2024. The De Fleury Medal is the highest award for professional excellence in the Engineer Regiment and celebrates those who contributed significantly to Army Engineering. Henry Langrehr’s incredible military history is nothing short of heroic. During WWII, he was among the paratroopers who bravely faced German anti-aircraft fire during the Normandy invasion. Surviving the jump into Ste Mere Eglise, capture, and internment as a POW, he later escaped, returned to combat, and eventually came home to Clinton, Iowa. Stay tuned to our social media pages and YouTube channel for a video highlighting the special day! 2moStill looking young and fit! I highly recommend his book, Whatever It Took and happy to know his grandson, Phil Langrehr, who carried on the tradition of being a paratrooper.
