Associate Provost #MSCHE Accreditation Liaison Officer, Professor of Political Science, Farmingdale State College, SUNY
4 years ago today, I was at the white wall of my office at Molloy University where I served as Founding Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences. It was the week before Spring Break. I has just released our School Strategic Plan, 25x25, and I was planning for a series of meetings in the school to discuss how we were going to make good on the goals and objectives outlined in the plan. It was an ambitious plan to place the new School of Arts and Sciences on equal footing with our professional schools: Nursing and Health Sciences, Education and Human Services, and Business. At base, it called for increasing enrollment by 25% by the year 2025. Given that this was the first time the new School of Arts and Sciences had engaged in strategic planning, I planned to talk to faculty and staff about not being afraid of failure. I scribbled this statement on my white wall. It would serve as one of the basic guiding principles for our collective efforts. The next day, the College shut down due to the #covid19 #covid19pandemic. That was four years ago. The world has changed fundamentally in the ensuing years. But the sentiment remains. In fact, it could not be more true or applicable in our #postcovid world. There are no failures. Only blueprints for the future. Bring it on. #highereducationleadership #higheredleadership #highered #grit #gritandgrace #strategicplanning #strategicthinking #strategiccommunication Farmingdale State College

Bravo to all individuals involved in our public school systems for achieving remarkable success in preparing tens of millions of students for a bright future. This success is a testament to the dedication and hard work of educators, administrators, and communities nationwide. However, as we celebrate these achievements, we must also recognize the urgent need to include and support the increasingly diverse populations within our schools. There remains a significant opportunity and necessity to ensure that every student, regardless of background, has access to the tools and resources needed to succeed. Today, too many students still face barriers that impede their path to success. Addressing this challenge requires innovative approaches and expanded support systems. It involves broadening our conversations about diversity, equity, and inclusion to redefine what it means to be marginalized and to ensure that our educational systems are equipped to leave no child behind. As we move deeper into the 21st century, it becomes increasingly clear that while some students are poised for success, others are at risk of being left behind by both current and past iterations of our public school systems. This dichotomy highlights the critical roles that innovation, commitment, and a sustained focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion must play in our journey forward. It is time to celebrate our successes, but also to intensify our efforts to innovate and adapt, ensuring that every step we take is inclusive and equitable. By doing so, we can create educational environments where every child is valued and given the opportunity to thrive. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion! Opportunity exists! #EducationForAll #InclusiveEducation #DiversityInSchools #EquityInEducation #NoChildLeftBehind #BrightFutures #InnovateToEducate #PublicSchoolPride #EducationalEquity #SuccessForAllStudents #RedefineMarginalized #PathToSuccess #SupportEveryStudent #BuildInclusiveSchools #StandingInTheGap #VillageOfMentors #Villageprojects.net

“Out of the public schools grows the greatness of a nation.”- Mark Twain I’ve always believed that education, health, and economic inequalities reinforce each other. And for many, these systems have been broken for decades. It’s no secret that US leaders from all sectors and industries must rethink and demand more from our public schools to remain at the forefront of global competition. #ForgeAhead #PublicSchoolEducation #FightingChance https://lnkd.in/eyvm-Ea5
