𝑩𝒆𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂 𝒈𝒐𝒐𝒅 𝒆𝒏𝒈𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒆𝒓 𝒊𝒔 𝑵𝑶𝑻 𝑬𝑵𝑶𝑼𝑮𝑯 𝒕𝒐 𝒂𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒆𝒗𝒆 𝒈𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒕 𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒖𝒍𝒕𝒔. 🛑 Many engineers mistakenly believe that technical skills by themselves are enough to lead to significant career advancements. Reality couldn't be far from the truth. While technical versatility is crucial, it only takes us to a point where further growth requires additional skills. You need more to move from good to great (to use the popular phrase). My experience shows that - apart from technical - many skills are important for verification engineers, but four of them truly stand out: 👇 1️⃣ 𝑪𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 The ability to properly communicate nuances of potential bugs is essential. In most cases, this requires quite advanced communication techniques. 2️⃣ 𝑻𝒆𝒂𝒎𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒌 Most of the verification process is done in teams. Those who cannot adapt to team dynamics will lag behind. 3️⃣ 𝑬𝑸 Hundreds of studies show that EQ is the main determinant of career success, and this is true for verification engineers as well. 4️⃣ 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒂𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒊𝒕𝒚 My favorite. Being able to reach out, constantly seek answers and clarifications, and question what is accepted is imperative for a verification engineer. Being passive, doing only what you are told, and accepting the status quo is a sure way to fail. In practical terms, if you are in a position where you lead and manage other engineers, make sure to help them develop in all mentioned areas, not only in technical ones. #verificationengineer #career #success #skills #verification #engineer #achievement #managementcoaching #teamcoaching

To all the Test, Validation, and Integration Engineers in my network struggling to find a new position: it's not you. This job market in this category (at least in the electronics/embedded world) has been the slowest I've ever experienced, outside major recessions, where it was slow for everyone. I'm on the hunt to open new positions in this space, but it's an uphill climb. Make sure you're using every aspect of your network available to maximize whatever opportunities you find. Hopefully, companies will start realizing they need good engineers in this space as well. #test #validation #jobmarket
