This year will see the #IPCC make significant progress in its seventh cycle on a number of key areas and geographies, including Short Lived Climate Pollutants and #cities. #SLCPs #climatechange

In the recent #IPCC_60th session, a key point of contention was the alignment with the #second_global_stocktake under the #Paris_Agreement in 2028, and there were concerns about compromising the integrity of the IPCC's scientific assessment process. Additionally, the final decision on the program of work did not specify a #deadline for the assessment reports in #2028. https://lnkd.in/gN9nFWB9

New paper contributing among giants to understating and reviewing how deep uncertainty can better be used for the IPCC AR7!! All analysts and modellers could learn a lot from this, and lots going on in this domain for the foreseeable future!

The IPCC exists to provide policy-relevant science to decision-makers.  Often the most policy relevant information is uncertain.  Over the last twenty-five years, the IPCC has drawn increasingly on DMDU concepts to more effectively include policy-relevant, but lower-confidence scientific information in its assessments. Our new paper – The Use of DMDU in the IPCC –describes how the IPCC has benefited from DMDU and how DMDU can contribute to the next IPCC assessment report. Our #PartnerSpotlight series comes to a close with a focus on the Joint Research Centre - European Commission. The JRC provides independent, evidence-based #knowledge and #science, supporting #EU policies to positively impact #society. As a department of the European Commission, the JRC plays a key role at multiple stages of the #policy cycle. It works closely with other Commission departments, EU institutions and agencies, as well as with scientific partners and policy organisations in #Europe and internationally. The JRC offers scientific expertise and competences from a very wide range of scientific disciplines in support of almost all EU policy areas. The JRC’s involvement in the #SPARCCLE project will be spearheaded by the Directorate for Energy, Transport & Climate and the Directorate for Sustainable Resources. The IPCC issued its 6th Assessment Report in 2023. The complete 8000+ page document was summarized in a 150-page "Synthesis Report", as well as an even shorter 30-page "Summary for Policymakers". The Synthesis Report contains inexplicable errors and omissions, to the point of reducing the credibility of the entire document.
