In our #Bharateeya tradition, most of the ‘New Year’ celebrations happen in the March-April period when Panchangas are released. But for practical reasons, it has become a practice to wish for the Year-beginning as well. Here is wishing every Astika a happy and blissful 2025! KK Anand (grandson of Sri Utthamur Swami), a great friend (and college senior) with whom I am working on a mammoth Vedas-Upanishads project sent me this on a piece of paper where he has found some interesting mathematical points wrt 2025 as a number! Reflecting on timeless wisdom from our "✨Ancient Gurukul system✨", I was reminded of the first lesson taught to every student: the Vidyarthi Lakshan, or the essential traits of a dedicated learner. 👨🎓 👩🎓 These five principles were designed to shape not only a student’s academic journey but their entire character.🎓💫 ✅Grih Tyagam– Live away from home distractions, fostering independence. ✅Alpahari– Practice moderation in eating, keeping the body light and the mind sharp. ✅Bako Dhyanam– Focus deeply, like a heron waiting patiently, committed to the goal. ✅Kaak Chesta– Be as clever and resourceful as a crow, adaptable to challenges. ✅Swaan Nidra– Sleep lightly and remain vigilant, ready to learn at every opportunity. These age old teachings hold value even today, guiding us to focus, persevere, and grow. I learned these principles from my Guru early in life and, though I’ve sometimes drifted, revisiting them brings clarity and purpose. Let’s remember these qualities in our own journeys and strive for continuous self-improvement. Hope this resonates with you as it does with me.
