I'm proud to have contributed to the special volume 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑆𝑖𝑛𝑜𝑠𝑝ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝐵𝑒𝑦𝑜𝑛𝑑: 𝐸𝑠𝑠𝑎𝑦𝑠 𝑖𝑛 𝐻𝑜𝑛𝑜𝑟 𝑜𝑓 𝐽𝑜𝑠ℎ𝑢𝑎 𝐹𝑜𝑔𝑒𝑙. I recently received my advance copy at the launch party in Heidelberg, Germany, and the volume is now available for pre-order through De Gruyter Brill: https://lnkd.in/epnV-KRR The essays cover an exceptionally broad range of topics and time-periods in the Sino-Japanese region, including (but not limited to) law, politics, art, literature, and translation; a range that speaks to the influence of the exceptional scholar that it honours.

Today marks another personal achievement in my career & studies. In my LL.B. Dissertation, I argue that cautiously drafted, the law of #Tort can be an enabler in promoting the uptake and use of #ArtificialIntelligence products and services. Most importantly, the Dissertation provides an analyses of the possible implications that the proposed #ArtificialIntelligenceLiabilityDirective may have on the Maltese legal system. Special thanks goes to the supervisor of this Dissertation, Dr Mireille Caruana, and co-supervisor, Professor David E. Zammit.

China wants academic exchange but historians say increased censorship makes research hard By Laurie Chen Now too dangerous for historians to trawl flea markets for material Censorship has only intensified under Xi Some foreign-based historians denied visas to China BEIJING, Sept 13 (Reuters) - At Beijing's largest antiques market, Panjiayuan, among the Mao statues, posters and second-hand books are prominent signs warning against the sale of publications that might have state secrets or "reactionary propaganda". Some of the signs display a hotline number so that citizens can tip off authorities if they witness an illegal sale. China's antique and flea markets were once a gold mine of documents for historians, but now the signs are emblematic of the chill that has descended on their ability to do research in the country.

📚✨ New Release Alert! ✨📚 We are thrilled to announce the publication of a groundbreaking book by one of our talented young researchers, Valentina Maglietta! Titled "Análisis jurídico sobre el denominado 'Procés'", this insightful work is published by the prestigious Spanish publisher REUS, as part of their "Claves de Jurisprudencia" collection. In this book, Valentina explores how, in recent years, the Catalan independence movement pursued an unconstitutional unilateral path to achieve independence. With a rigorous yet accessible approach, this essential read is perfect for academics, jurists, and anyone interested in understanding the legal and political foundations of Catalan independence and its impact on the Spanish constitutional order. The book not only illuminates the Catalan case but also provides a critical reflection on the territorial and decentralization challenges faced by contemporary liberal democracies in Europe. Don't miss out on this important contribution to the field! #NewRelease #CatalanIndependence #LegalAnalysis #SpanishLaw #PoliticalScience #REUS #ClavesDeJurisprudencia 🔗 [https://lnkd.in/e4JyNhM9]

🎯I am excited to share that my latest article co-authored with Associate Professor Kürşat Çınar of ODTÜ's Political Science Department has been accepted for publication by the Turkish Studies Journal. In our piece titled "The Tale of Two Nations: Modernization Narratives of the Pro-State Iranian and Turkish Newspapers in the 1920s-1940s", we have looked into a total of almost 1,000 newspaper front pages to try and re-construct the elite discourse of the time on modernization. To do so, we have adopted Thematic Analysis to examine the major themes of economic, socio-cultural, and political/legal modernization as presented on the Iranian Ettelaat and Koushes and Turkish Ulus and Cumhuriyet newspapers of the time. If you are into the history of modern Iran and Turkey in their foundation eras and like to have a sense of the type of stuff published on the key newspapers of the day, this could be a fun, informative and digestable read for you. The original version is already available in the form of my master's thesis at https://lnkd.in/dBUesSWP.
