We have recommenced our annual study of attitudes in rural Ireland for The Examiner - Irish Examiner/Ipsos B&A Rural Ireland Thinks poll. This series has run over many years and this year’s poll was fielded among a 500-person sample representative of the population of those living in rural Ireland. The release coincides with the start of the National Ploughing Association / Championships, a centrepiece of life in rural Ireland. This study involves face-to-face, in-home interviewing which is essential in parts of the country where rural broadband isn’t adequate and where there is no substitute to knocking on someone’s door. The final submission date for this year's Marketer of the Year (MotY) entries is Wednesday, September 18. The judges are looking for candidates who have achieved outstanding brand success through exceptional strategic direction, innovation, creativity and effective communications. Entrants must have a track record of driving growth and possess strong leadership qualities, having managed, upskilled and inspired teams. The judges will also seek out candidates who helped develop marketing's reputation as a strategic discipline. Three marketers have joined the judging panel, namely Geoff Codd, residential business and marketing director, Energia; Jess Kelly, retail marketing manager, Tirlán (previously Glanbia) and Colm Sherwin, chief digital and investment manager, Core. Also judging this year's awards will be Luke Reaper, chief executive Ireland, Ipsos B&A; Meabh Clohosey, director of brand, marketing and loyalty at Aer Lingus; Orlaith Blaney, director of corporate affairs, Irish Water; Kevin Kent, head of marketing, Laya, and Ruth O'Shea, director and head of marketing and communications at Grant Thornton. Two previous winners of the award, Suzanne Weldon, chief marketing and communications officer, BWG Foods (for Special Olympics) and Kevin Donnelly, managing director, Britvic Ireland, complete the distinguished panel of judges. Ipsos Education Monitor 2024: High levels of pride in Irish education system according to 30 country Ipsos study In the latest edition of our annual Education Monitor – conducted across 30 countries, including Ireland - we explore attitudes towards education and schools, with a special focus on the role of technology, AI and smartphones. SOME KEY FINDINGS FROM IRELAND: 🏫 High levels of pride in the Irish education. 64% in Ireland think that we have a good education system, compared to a global average of 33%. Out of the 30 countries surveyed, Ireland ranks third in citizen perceptions of their education system. Rightly so, given Ireland’s high ranking in the international PISA educational rankings published by the OECD. 📱 Support for a ban on smartphones in schools. Almost two-thirds in Ireland (64%), and 53% globally believe that smartphones should be banned in schools. This comes as the Minister for Education issues new guidance on implementing a mobile phone ban across all schools in Ireland. Consumer confidence has increased against a backdrop of positive economic data. This wave of the Ipsos B&A Consumer Confidence Barometer was conducted from the 8th – 14th July 2024. 📈 Consumer confidence has increased sharply in July 2024. It now stands at a net rating of -24 (those feeling downbeat versus those feeling more upbeat), compared to -34 in June. This is the third month in a row where confidence has improved. 💶 Indeed, confidence is at a 30-month high (stretching back to January 2022) and is up across all regions. In particular, Dubliners are more upbeat. ⛔ However, we are still in negative territory overall.
