Getting to know the GuildHE institutions in recent years, and now as Chair, has brought home just how diverse and distinctive an HE system the UK has. This is to be celebrated. Institutions of different shapes and sizes, multiple models for undertaking teaching, research and knowledge exchange, and different levels and types of local, national and international impact. GuildHE has the greatest diversity of institutions because it includes universities and pretty much every other type of HE provider. Behind every institution in GuildHE, as is the case with Harper Adams University, are communities, industries and professions with deep connections. Students describe the distinctiveness of learning and building confidence in communities of different sizes and different settings. Preserving choice for students, communities and for industries can and should be maintained in an ever more efficient system. As this picture of Juno signifies (which captures the first time she met a larger pup) size of institution is not a reflection of potential impact or significance when you take it down to the student, industry or community level. What is different is scale which matters in some contexts, just not all. 50 Plus 1 Sports invested $70 million to help Saint Augustine’s University clear its $32 million debt and secure its financial future. The Black-owned development company entered a long-term ground lease agreement with the university, allowing it to develop the land and share revenue for the next 50 years. Breaking News: Fitch Ratings has upgraded Haverford College's Issuer Default Rating (IDR) and the rating on its 2017A revenue bonds to 'AA' from 'AA-', reflecting the College's strong financial position and improved outlook. This upgrade reflects Haverford’s strong student demand, consistent academic excellence and a robust track record in fundraising to support its strategic goals. According to Fitch, "As an elite, intentionally small college of about 1,400 undergraduate students with an international draw, student demand remains exceptional with highly selective admissions, and strong matriculation, retention, and graduation rates." Had a blast presenting with Jenny Zuluaga, Heidi A. Truax Ph.D., and Lauren Schwartze at #NCAN24 conference (even if I can't stay for the rest of the conference). We were able to highlight a lot of the incredible work happening in Chicago Public Schools, but this is my favorite slide. Since 2004, CPS has more than tripled the number of students who have enrolled in college while INCREASING the rate at which those students are completing college. The total number of CPS students has actually decreased by nearly 100,000 students during that time so that enrollment number is also reflective of the marked improvement in graduation rate. But here's the knockout: If our Class of 2023 grads graduate college at the same rate as previous classes (and we think that grad rate will increase), we will more than TRIPLE the number of CPS grads with college degrees by 2030 (8000 vs. 2500). For context, the average college enrollment rate for high minority, low-income high schools is 52% and the completion rate is 28%. Blessed to be part of this work!
