📢 Fresh findings from Society of Interventional Radiology examine the prevalence of Conflicts of Interest #COI among #InterventionalRadiologists and related specialists on social media. A deep dive into device/company mentions on X (formerly Twitter) and potential bias. 🧐💡 @SIRspecialists Study Scope: • Analyzed 13,809 X posts between Oct and Dec 2021 • Focus: Device/company mentions by US interventional radiologists & related fields 🔎 COI Stats Unveiled: • Out of 80 posts mentioning 100 devices/companies, 53% had COI 🚨 • 40% of interventional radiologists with device mentions linked to COI • Neurosurgeons showed a higher COI rate of 62% ⬆️ 🔍 Comparative Results: • Physicians mentioning a device/company are 3.7x more likely to have COI compared to controls (53/100 vs 14/100, p<0.001) • Median received payment for those with COI: $2,270 💵 • Crucially, none of these COIs were disclosed in posts 🛑 📌 Takeaway: A significant correlation exists between Social media device/company mentions and financial COIs. The lack of disclosure could limit the assessment of biases in posts. 🔗 Dive deeper into the study here: https://lnkd.in/gqjkmgdD Acknowledgment to the diligent efforts of researchers from @USC_IR, @Stanford_IR, & @MountSinaiIR for spotlighting this pressing issue! 🙌 @_trwebb, @michaeljrepajic, @IR_Ethics, @FiveNada, @TherealDoctorJ, & team!
