CEO of The Human Edge (formerly Mowgli Mentoring) building thriving businesses one entrepreneur, manager and leader at a time
Connect X recently released research on "Decoding Organisation Culture in the New World of Work," highlighting mentoring as one of the most sought-after forms of support. I'm grateful to Ann Kabinga for inviting me to speak on this crucial topic. Thank you, Ann! #Mentoring provides a trusted environment for individuals to explore and navigate barriers to their performance, both external (skills, knowledge) and internal (fears, insecurities, stress, burnout, loneliness). It's a journey best taken with a companion who can offer guidance and support. 98% of Fortune 500 companies offered mentoring programmes in 2023, up from 84% the in 2021 and here’s why: 1. #Talentdevelopment: Mentoring boosts confidence, adaptability, and resilience by addressing individual needs with personalised feedback and skill development. It fosters career growth and enhances leadership and productivity. According to MentorcliQ, 94% of employees would stay with a company longer if it invested in their career development. This leads to improved creativity, innovation, and stronger alignment with organisational goals. 2. #Employeeengagement: Mentoring strengthens team cohesion, communication, and collaboration, building a positive work culture rooted in trust and inclusivity. This creates a workplace where people feel empowered and engaged. Gartner found that employees who are mentored are five times more likely to be promoted and 20% more likely to stay with their companies within a year. This translates to improved job satisfaction, employee wellbeing, and retention. 3. #Organisationalperformance: Companies with effective mentoring programmes often experience better financial performance due to enhanced strategic agility and innovation. Higher customer satisfaction and lower employee turnover also contribute to the bottom line. ASTD notes that companies with formal mentoring programs are 46% more likely to be industry market leaders. SHRM reports that turnover can cost 50% to 200% of an employee's annual salary, so reducing turnover is crucial. It's important to note that simply having a mentoring programme doesn't guarantee success. To achieve real results, organisations must design effective mentoring programmes that truly deliver on their promises. See the comments for details on our proven 7-step framework. If you'd like help to create a mentoring programme that not only looks good on paper but also delivers tangible results and/or are interested in transforming your workplace, enhancing employee engagement, and driving organisational success, get in touch! #mentoringmatters #humancentredworkplaces
