Meet Isanna Saxon, Property Management Administrator for NHS Brooklyn CDC, Inc. She has nine+ years of experience in business management and customer service. For the past two and and a half years she's been working in property management managing single family and 2-to-4-unit homes. NHS of Brooklyn has given her the opportunity to merge her love for helping others with her professional aspirations. Isanna strongly believes that a person's growth and accomplishments are rooted in those we help, and that is transcends through individual character and professionalism. Property management is close to Isanna's heart because it assists small homeowners in managing their investments and more importantly preserve generational wealth, especially for people of color. When she looks at Property Management holistically, obtaining my Accredited Residential Manager certification (ARM®) from Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) felt like the natural next step in my journey. This certification solidifies to her clients that she has the knowledge and professional expertise to manage their investments which builds a trusting relationship. Isanna said, "During the month of February, we celebrate Black History Month, highlighting how far we have progressed as black people. I believe that we should always celebrate ourselves and the journey of our lives. However, to get this opportunity to highlight us as black people is even more special. Our history gets to new ears and for us to remember our forefather and ancestors background as they have laid the foundation for us to be strong, have zeal to overcome the struggles we face daily, love and care for each other, etc. This is why diversity, equity, and inclusion is so important, especially in the workplace. Here at NHS, we provide an environment to make people feel welcome, comfortable, and valued and is refelcted through our diverse workforce that includes different races, ethnicity, and cultures." #diversity #equity #inclusion #DEI #blackhistorymonth #propertymanagement #affordablehousing

It is a fact that the commercial real estate industry lacks workforce diversity. Black women hold less than 1% of senior commercial real estate (CRE) executive positions. The number of Black men in such roles hovers around 1.3%. It is also true that Black professionals in CRE face unique challenges, but there are solutions to overcome them. Having a strategic career advisor can be an essential partner in identifying one's strengths and unique talents, refining networking skills, and building strong professional associations. And by having access to mentors and advocates, Black professionals can advance their careers and achieve their goals. This week in honor of Black History Month, Black Developers Forum is spotlighting career strategist Garland F. of Fuller Circle Consulting. She has nearly twenty years of experience in the CRE industry helping Black professionals navigate and improve their career path through one-on-one guidance and advising.
