I have been a competitive runner since the age of 7. In 2015 I was diagnosed with breast cancer, and the only thing my doctor asked of me was to pause my running. Why? Cancer is a symptom and an indication that there is an imbalance in the system. Rather than divide the body into organs, I approached disease as a systemic problem, and we must treat the system, not the symptom; the cause, not the disease. This completely redefines the whole notion of disease. I learned, within seconds of starting to run, your immune cells increase, double, triple, and some even increase tenfold. About 10 to 15 minutes after finishing a run —low- or high intensity—that cell count goes back to normal. But those immune cells decrease to below normal levels—sometimes by half or more—for hours before returning to the normal baseline level. This is what’s called the “open window,” and during that open window, the immune system is suppressed, leaving people more susceptible to infection. Those immune cells haven’t disappeared during that open window, they’re just out of the bloodstream looking for infection—which is, what they should be doing. However at this time I was concentrating on doing everything that would avoid the open window and treatments to boost my immunity Movement never stopped. Do I run now? It was an honor to speak at the Lufthansa Group International Women's Day event on , Friday, 08th March at Park Hyatt Dubai A fireside chat: This year’s theme was ”Inspire Inclusion”. Attended by a room full of women of strength & character, I spoke on ‘Making Self-Care Inclusive’. We discussed the misperceptions around what good leadership is, what self-care is, and how self-care actually works. I’ve found that with some thoughtful introspection, it’s possible for even the most skeptical among us to overcome those misconceptions and learn to reap the benefits of self-care. I emphasize on habits that cover reflection & action through nutrition, sleep, movement & emotional growth. For a person to practice true self-care, they must use personal responsibility and self-reliance in a way that positively impacts their health automatically improving the environment around them be it at home or work. “We are what we Digest” As an Integrative Nutrition & Health Expert, I believe culinary interventions (cooking classes) area great way to improve the quality of dietary intake and change behaviour. Hands-on cooking sessions, whether they are home-based or in-group have favourable impacts on improving dietary habits, general nutrition knowledge, and health outcomes. When I opened my restaurant, it taught me that a combined approach of cooking and nutrition education seemed to be more effective in producing short-term behavioural changes in healthy eating behaviours and physical activity. Over the years I have started to cook more at home. While preparing food we secrete our reward hormone “Dopamine” which also triggers a calm effect on the gut kick prepping a sense of mindfulness. Public speaking comes with responsibility. The intent & intention are very important for me to define before I go on stage. The words I use not only impact’s others, but my own DNA can be impacted.   Words are invisible weapons. They shatter dreams or build them. Uplift a soul or tear it down. Words carry more than sounds and meaning, they carry power. The intention behind the words we use directs the energy; how it will influence, impact, and change everything around you. This applies to words: spoken, written, or simply held as thoughts. What we think we become. All speech creates waves of energy radiating through our bodies and flowing out into the world.
