🌧️ Ever wondered where the rain goes? ☔ With the heavy rains we're experiencing this weekend in Ireland, it's crucial to understand how our urban areas can evolve to become more sustainable and resilient to #floods and extreme weather events like #StormÉowyn. This video by CIRIA demonstrates how changes to the natural water cycle caused by development can be positively managed. It also highlights how Sustainable Drainage Systems #SuDS turned this challenge into an exciting opportunity, contributing to the creation of better places. #FloodResilience #GreenInfrastructure #NbS https://lnkd.in/d6cAqHxi

Seeing the photos of the recent rockfall at West Bay on the Jurassic Coast really hits home. Coastal erosion isn’t just something that happens to homes - it’s a real and growing threat to businesses too. Businesses along the coastline face mounting challenges as erosion accelerates due to climate change. At CoastClear, we emphasize the importance of proactive planning and risk assessments for ALL coastal properties. Protecting your commercial investments starts with understanding the risks. 📖 Read more about the West Bay rockfall here: https://lnkd.in/ezfDr64v #WestBay #CoastalErosion #ClimateRisks

World Environment Day Theme for 2024:- Land restoration, stopping desertification and building drought resilience. Planting trees is like stitching the earth back together, piece by piece. When we plant trees, we're not just adding greenery; we're creating a shield against the encroaching desert. Trees anchor the soil, preventing erosion and desertification. Their roots dig deep, holding onto precious water, making barren lands fertile again. With each sapling, we're building a fortress against drought, giving life a fighting chance to thrive even in the harshest conditions. So, let's sow the seeds of change, one tree at a time, and watch as our landscapes transform into oases of hope and resilience. #worldenvironmemtday #makeachange #healthyenvironment #sustainablegoals #plantatree Illustrated using:- Adobe Photoshop PicsArt #illustration #vectors #environmentprotection #photoshop #picsart

Can UK woodlands eat up our carbon emissions by 2050? That's the goal. This animation by Robin Lane-Roberts calculates the balance, by extrapolating our current planting rates. However farming, peatlands and towns take up space, so we might possibly increase our forest cover from 13% to 17% by 2025 which should, assuming our territorial emissions continue to decline through energy efficiency and insulation [spoiler alert!] catch 25% of our remaining emissions in 2025. The main drawback: aircraft and shipping emissions are excluded: the UK outsources carbon emissions by importing food, steel, cement, cars, toys so that other countries carry the carbon load from industry and farming. While shooting on location at the stunning Wildflower Solar project in Sacramento, California, we were tasked with creating an image library and a video highlighting the social and environmental benefits for California. The dynamic nature of on-site shooting poses distinctive challenges and unveils unexpected beauty. Our primary aim is to enhance brand visibility with innovative and engaging content across various landscapes. Through meticulous research and location scouting, we ensure a seamless production process, yet we remain open to spontaneous, organic moments that truly shine. ph: Marc Morrison / Lightsource bp #ContentCreation #BrandVisibility #OnLocationShoots #Lightsource bp #CaliforniaBenefits 🎥🌿 #Lightsource #Photography #Interviews #Video #Solar #Renewable #RenewableEnergy #Birds #Nature #SolarFarm #SolarField #VideoProduction #Sacramento #SacramentoCalifornia #bp #AlternativeEnergy #Sheep #SheepHerding #Innovation #PersonalBranding #Branding #SocialNetworking #DigitalMarketing

Last November, we were presented with a challenge. Knight Frank required a marketing film for an unprecedented land sale in Scotland. The sale of Far Ralia offers a unique and market first opportunity to invest in a fully funded afforestation and biodiversity enhancement project, sequestering an estimated 346,000 tonnes of carbon. The film needed to convey thousands of acres of replanting at scale, peatland restoration opportunities and the potential for large scale biodiversity enhancement. The project presented us with several issues. It was the depths of winter. We had a window of around 3 hours of shootable light per day. We needed to rely on the forecast, fly up to Inverness and pray to the weather gods. We need to show the potential for regeneration with large scale planting that hasn’t happened. Which would require CGI. We had to film before the first snow of the winter, otherwise it would be game over. Even Rob Hayward can’t make a film out of a white landscape. We got chased out of the airspace by a Peregine Falcon. We spent a nail-biting amount of time waiting for ground frost to melt and white outs to clear. We hired an SUV with ground clearance instead of a 4X4. We learned that you really do need a 4x4 in the wilds of Scotland in Winter. As a land sale, the land was just that – land. A lot of land! We are really proud to have crafted a story film with character from what was realistically very little to work with (a stunning landscape, but pretty wet, brown and dark in December!). Evocative music and a strong script also do some heavy lifting in this film. Real estate traditionally prioritises specifications above all else. So, we were lucky to have clients who trusted our advice and allowed us to strike a balance between informative and emotive with the onscreen wording. Overall, it was thrilling to be involved in a sale that has such huge potential to effect positive environmental change, in a beautiful part of the world. And in the end, we delivered a film that we think Braveheart would be proud of. #propertyfilm #shortfilm #corporatefilm #productioncompany #realestate #naturalcapital

Found this time lapse of weather (I’m thinking moisture) in motion for 2024. I naturally look at California and other typically arid areas. Hydretain supports roots in between water applications and supports in times of drought utilizing moisture that would otherwise be lost to evaporation and converting to droplets. Roots drink droplets more so than they can drink vapor. Hydretain.com https://lnkd.in/gxQBcBzm https://lnkd.in/gVTFKtyi

Incredible pics in this link that beg the question. How can we compete with Mother Nature's wrath? Over the last several years billions of dollars have been invested in technology that that detects #wildfire. Case in point will be the initial smoke pics of the #ParkFire found in this series. One moral to the story is, no matter how quickly a fire can be detected, the battle is futile without the capacity to respond appropriately. I'm not throwing stones at the fire service here. Their response with the existing capacity was exemplary. I am advocating we've spent billions to detect and little to nothing to address the capacity that will make a difference. My six capacity investment recommendations: 1. Invest into development of heavy aircraft 2. Better contracting for those aircraft 3. Improved dispatch solutions 4. Better benefits and equity for federal firefighters 5. Expansion of fire crew numbers and modules 6. Development and utilization of innovative ground suppression equipment My top picks for government and industry capacity: 1. Investment into using biomass for energy 2. Improved forest management 3. Governtment incentives for preparedness 4. Investment into safe innovative chemical suppression solutions https://lnkd.in/g8yvF8hj

Daylighting Streams Daylighting streams is an often-overlooked approach in watershed restoration. In the past, streams have been ‘buried’ or put into underground pipes or culverts to repurpose the land for other uses. We need to consider ‘daylighting’ them.
