We're launching a carbon and nature marketplace, a climate adaptation pilot, a Rural and Coastal Taskforce with Defra, and a rural business support package - and that's just the start! We need great people to help us achieve all this and more. Happy Earth Day! Starting in 1970, this day has grown into a large global movement to raise awareness about environmental protection. We are taking this opportunity to explore Green jobs, debunk some myths, and develop different ways to do something positive this Earth Day. What are Green jobs? As the ONS defines, green jobs contribute to “protecting or restoring the environment, including those that mitigate or adapt to climate change”. Green jobs encompass various roles focused on environmental protection, clean energy, and sustainable development. Perhaps conservation comes to mind, but it doesn’t stop there – green jobs can now be found in many different sectors. Think environmental architects, project managers, climate change analysts, environmental lawyers, corporate sustainability officers, policy advisors, and environmental educators. Whether you’re great with numbers, creative problem-solving, or a people person, there's a green job out there that aligns with your interests. Green jobs also span various sectors. Your skills and passion can positively impact our planet – Green jobs are at the forefront of tackling climate change and building a sustainable future. They drive economic growth, promote social equity, and protect our environment with resource efficiency and biodiversity conservation. What now? There are many ways you can start developing the skills and experience now as a student that will be useful when applying for Green Jobs: ·      participate in our gardening workshops. ·      set up a society with other students. ·      find out more about initiatives you might be able to get involved in, such as the Sustainability Fund and Cavendish Living Lab. How green is your job? Nesta harnessed data from 4 million jobs to explore the environmental impact of different types of green jobs across the UK.
