We’re pleased to announce the start of the project “Public Acceptance of Policies for Energy Efficient Buildings”, led by Fouad E. , funded by the Swedish Energy Agency.   The project aims to explore public acceptance of decarbonization measures in buildings, focusing on energy efficiency and demand flexibility policies. It seeks to synthesize existing research and develop a methodological “toolkit” to guide future studies on public approval and engagement with energy-related interventions in buildings.

New England states collaborate on ambitious plans to enhance grid reliability and clean energy access! A coalition of states has submitted applications for federal funding to support large-scale transmission and energy storage projects, aiming to unlock renewable energy potential and strengthen grid resilience across the region. These initiatives, in partnership with Elevate Renewables and AEIC member National Grid, align with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)'s Grid Innovation Program (GRIP) to fund projects leveraging advanced technologies for grid resilience. The applications prioritize community benefits, workforce development, and equity, aligning with DOE's goals to support disadvantaged communities in energy infrastructure development. Many of us in the Regen camp have been closely engaged with the development of the premise and process of Regional Energy Strategic Plans (and the regional bodies that will be set up to produce them). We have submitted not one, but two responses to Ofgem's consultation around the policy framework for RESPs - we think its that important! Within this are a number of specific recommendations we think are vital to getting the aims, methods and coordination of RESPs right, but we also recognise much of the detailed design is still to come... Three key takeaways from our responses are: 🔎 RESPs should prioritise bottom-up evidence over top-down disaggregation of national pathways. 🔎 NESO should build on and add value to, rather than duplicate, existing engagement and network forecasting processes that have been extensively developed. 🔎 A key function of RESPs should be to ensure that the energy system is net zero-ready. The RESP could make a big difference to the way we plan renewable energy developments. My current project is heavily aligned with the implications of the RESP, and it's providing an excellent opportunity for me to further understand the planning process for renewables and the need for work like this to be done right. My colleagues at Regen have put together a fantastic response to the Ofgem consultation. Definitely worth a read for those interested in the role that planning reform has in achieving our net zero goals. #cleanpower2030 #energysystem #energyplanning
