Community dialogue is crucial in Somalia, given its history of conflict and instability. Engaging in dialogue can help foster understanding, reconciliation, and peacebuilding among various communities. To initiate community dialogue, stakeholders could organize forums, workshops, and meetings where individuals from different backgrounds can come together to discuss issues, share perspectives, and find common ground. Facilitators trained in conflict resolution and mediation can help guide these discussions to ensure they are productive and respectful. Additionally, utilizing traditional conflict resolution mechanisms and involving local leaders and elders can enhance the effectiveness of community dialogue efforts in Somalia. #dialogue#Community#Soldarity #insomalia Author Mohameddeq Ali Abdi

Our recently accepted research article is set to be published in the esteemed Journal of Public Administration and Development. The focus of our study is on the underplayed roles of non-governmental organizations (NGOs), specifically their potential as mediators between fragmented public administrations in conflict-ridden countries. Drawing insights from interviews with various stakeholders in Yemen, we argue that NGOs may play a crucial role in mediating between conflicting authorities to effectively carry out their activities. Acting as a bridge, they can help maintain relations between the two divided administrations and potentially facilitate the post-conflict state-building process. While acknowledging that not all NGOs are suited for or obligated to fulfill this role, we identify four key enabling factors: 1) stakeholders' willingness to engage, 2) public support for the NGO, 3) the adequate capacity of NGOs, and 4) support from donors.

💡 Our insights from #PeaceCon2024: conflict sensitivity approaches that work We're excited to share key takeaways from our session with FHI 360, Saferworld and USAID. At this event, our Director of the DRC Conflict Sensitivity Hub, Abdourahamane Malam Saley, presented this groundbreaking work in one of the most rapidly changing conflict contexts. 👉 Here are some of the lessons from 2️⃣ years of collaboration with over 300 local and international humanitarian partners in the Democratic Republic of Congo: 📌 In volatile contexts, where the situation changes rapidly, regular conflict analysis ensures effective support to affected communities and 🙌 positive outcomes of a project. 📌For the very same reason assessing conflict-related risks in every phase of a project and not only at the very beginning is a good practice to follow. 📌Understanding #ConflictSensitivity should be a must for successful project planning and implementation but also a management practice across the💼 organization, too. 📌Tailored training combined with ongoing support brings the ⭐ best results. It's crucial to understand not only the overall context but also the implications for specific fields of activity. 👏 Our targeted programs on conflict sensitivity in emergency aid, water, sanitation and hygiene, or cash transfers have already led to tangible improvements in our partners’ practices and work results. 📌The more donors and partners understand the benefits of conflict sensitivity and prioritise it in their programmes, the better the quality of implementation and project results will be. Would you add anything to this list? Share in the comments!👇 Thank you to Alliance for Peacebuilding and United States Institute of Peace for bringing together brilliant experts from the world of #peacebuilding for insightful discussions on our common challenges and opportunities. #StatusQuoNoMore

On Wednesday, February 28, 2024, Nextier joined Search For Common Ground Nigeria at the National launch of the Freedom of Religion or Belief (FoRB) project. As a research partner for the FoRB project, Nextier signed an MOU with Search to track early warning signs of violent conflict in Nigeria utilising the Nextier Violent Conflict Database and advocate for research-based policy options in promoting, managing, and implementing peacebuilding programs in Nigeria. Nextier has tracked and recorded violent conflict in Nigeria since 2020. The Nextier Violent Conflict Database collates violent conflict incidents across Nigeria from field sources and media-reported violent conflict incidents daily. The Nextier Violent Conflict Database provides detailed insights into violent conflicts in Nigeria for research, policy advocacy, development, and security. As a result, the database is a goldmine for crucial sector players and decision-makers looking to implement evidence-based prevention and mitigation strategies in the face of Nigeria’s rising violent conflicts. ______ Olive Aniunoh | Samuel Oluwajobi | Joshua Biem | Kenneth Maduagwu | Ndidi Anyanwu | Ndubuisi N. As global humanitarian centres in Geneva, New York, and Brussels foster crucial dialogues, it's imperative that voices from national NGOs and civil society organisations (CSOs) are included. Yet, many smaller organisations, particularly those from the Global South, face barriers to engagement due to limited resources and geographical distance. Consequently, many challenges to comprehensive inclusion persist, hindering diverse representation and meaningful participation. To address this, as part of NGO Advocacy Working Group, INTERSOS and Care have collaborated with other stakeholders to develop a set of guidelines to facilitate the physical participation of local organisations in international events. These guidelines aim to bridge the gap, ensuring that voices from the frontlines of humanitarian crises are heard and valued. The paper aims to provide clear guidance to NGOs seeking to enhance physical participation and inclusion of CSOs and national NGOs in international panel discussions, roundtables, and other events. It outlines key challenges and provides recommended steps to address them. By promoting greater participation, we advance the principles of localisation and Accountability to Affected People (AAP), empowering smaller organisations to shape humanitarian discourse and action.
