Part 4   ICYMI Part 1-3 is available on my Profile ‘Featured Section’.   In Part 3 of our journey to help #travel & #event stakeholders (TES) be more aware of how they #think, especially about #climatechange, we shared ‘#thinking as a disciplined structured #creative process’ of #problemsolving.   I get this #academic knowledge is not sexy. Maybe even boring. Yet, I have learned that it’s necessary to understand the theory of problem-solving, in the thinking analysis #process. If we are to navigate #complex situations and #uncertainty like our climate crisis, we need all mindsets on deck to delve deeper for workable #solutions and #sustainable outcomes.   It’s necessary to understand that the changes we need to make involves all four thinking styles and associated #behaviours. It’s essential to be aware that different people prefer different stages of the creative problem-solving process. Learning about that preference and behaviour is what the Thinking Analysis does.   Just so you know, Dr. Basadur’s ‘clinically validated’ process is derived from how people ‘gain and use’ #knowledge. These two human behaviours have some people gaining knowledge by direct #experience. They then, use that knowledge for #ideation. This Team thrives on hands on experience and #learning to create options and #ideas.   Others gain knowledge by #abstract thinking. They muck around in their head thinking, analysing #data and observing situations. This Team loves to learn by using their knowledge to #evaluate, to understand better and make better #decisions.   Here’s the thing. Everyone has a preferred thinking style, even though it’s possible to have similar thinking in each of the 4-thinking styles.   Thinking Styles as a deliberate and methodical process. Now that we know the thinking process of gaining and using knowledge and we’re familiar with a Generator Thinker. Let’s meet the – Conceptualiser – the next thinking style in the process.   As a Conceptualiser Thinker you… - Define #problems, understand the big picture connections. - Put ideas together and new #insights. - Are an abstract thinker. You see things that are physically not there yet. - Have a clear understanding of what’s necessary. - Have a high appreciation of ideas. - Are not concerned with moving to #action. Something to be aware of.   As a Conceptualiser Thinker your happy place is gaining knowledge by abstract thinking. You use that knowledge to connect the dots and create #possibilities. I am so glad to announce that I completed the foundation level of forward program provided by McKinsey & Company ! This program introduced to me four must-have skills which are Adaptability and Resilience, Effective communication, Problem solving and Digital essentials. Here is a brief about what I learnt through this program: -Developing an adaptable and resilient mindset which is crucial in an ever-changing world full of uncertainty, and having that mindset will enable us to overcome obstacles in all the challenging fields. One of the methods that I learnt through this program to develop an adaptable and resilient mindset is the APR method which starts with becoming Aware of where I am at, then taking a Pause to center yourself and finally Reframe to take an action based on awareness. -Effective communication is the key for handling situations and enables us to resolve any conflicts that may hinder achieving our goal as a team, individuals or organizations. The way we communicate can be improved if we followed the four steps of the EPIC approach:  1) Empathy: Put yourself in the other person’s shoes to understand their  perspective 2) Purpose: Define the purpose to include their needs and yours 3) Insight: Articulate your ideas in a clear and compelling way 4) Conversation: Plan the flow of an effective two-way conversation -Problem solving helps us be more effective and efficient in facing different problems and situations, and following a structured approach to problem solving enables us to save us a lot of time, effort and money. Examples for effective problem solving approaches:  -The seven-step, hypothesis-led approach to problem solving - Advanced problem-solving techniques -Since the whole world is going digital, then we all should be aware of the Digital essentials and be equipped with the required skills that help us cope with digitalism. Don’t fall into this common competency trap. ➡️ When rolling out competencies across your entire organization, be careful not to end up with multiple versions of the same thing. ➡️ Consider the competency, problem solving, people in IT may argue that they need their own version of this competency that covers troubleshooting, while people in finance may argue that the types of problems they encounter are unique. ➡️ Here’s the thing, when you think about the behaviours that make someone a good problem solver, they don’t vary from area to area.     ➡️ WHAT problems people solve will be different, but HOW they go about identifying and solving them will largely be the same. 🚫 When it comes to transferable skills like problem solving you don’t need to create 20+ slightly different versions of the same thing. ✅ Instead, focus your efforts on defining one problem solving competency that clearly defines those behaviours needed for successful performance across the organization.
