💡Over 12,000 households’ blackout hit by Typhoon Ampil last week in Kanto area, while Tokyo was observed exporting power at a weekly high of 1GW to the Chubu area. On August 16-17, five major JERA #gas plants underwent planned outages due to Typhoon Ampil, resulting in a total loss of over 8GW of capacity, another 3GW+ of unplanned outages were seen by #PowerRT platform, Wood Mackenzie’s real-time #power monitoring system. During the household blackout in Tokyo Electric Power Grid Area, Tokyo was observed exporting power at a weekly high of 1GW to Chubu area, which is known for its substantial pumped storage capacity. This unusual situation was prompted by potential damage to household distribution lines and the grid, leading Tokyo to release excess power while reducing local generation. Power price in Tokyo peaked during the day on 17 August at 21.1JPY/kWh subsequently, same as in Tohoku and Hokkaido. Crude oil supplies to Hungary, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic have been disrupted after Ukraine suspended Lukoil's shipments through the Druzhba pipeline system. Wood Mackenzie’s European Pipeline Monitoring Service has recorded significant month-over-month decreases in both pipelines of the southern branch of the Druzhba system. The Druzhba South – Hungary line recorded a three-day shut in July, while the Druzhba South pipeline recorded daily average throughputs as low as 38kbpd earlier this week. While refineries like MOL’s Duna and Unipetrol’s Kralupy can source oil through alternative pipelines, namely the JANAF pipeline and the 221kbpd Ingolstadt-Kralupy-Litvinov pipeline, Slovakia's Slovnaft refinery remains landlocked without other supply options according to Wood Mackenzie research. #Gas plays an important part in Guangdong’s goal to achieve carbon peak by acting as a transitional fuel. The province is China’s largest gas-consumer and #LNG importer with 39 billion cubic metres (bcm) and 21 million tonnes (Mt) coming into the province in 2023. As the leading economy of all China’s provinces, the potential of its gas demand is considerable. Much of this is owing to the gas demand growth in industrial and power sectors.
