I was asked to write content for FREE multiple times. As writers, we’ve all been there— We have applied for the Content Writer’s position and were asked to create demanding samples with tight deadlines. Sometimes, within a day or even half a day. On top of that, they want it to be research-based and ofcourse, 100% human-written ( add a screenshot from copyleaks, okay?) I’ve certainly faced my fair share of these situations. But something happened recently that made me stop and think. A company I applied to reverted with a paid sample task. It wasn’t much, but it was something—and it meant a lot. It made me realize how important it is for companies to value your time. Writing isn’t just about words on a page—it’s about effort, creativity, and expertise. If you're a content writer paving your way just remember: ↪️ Know your worth: Don’t be afraid to ask for compensation. Your time and skills matter. Look for companies that value you: Like one that offers a paid sample or sets realistic expectations. That’s how it should be. ↪️ It’s okay to say no: If a task feels unfair or unrealistic, don’t hesitate to turn it down. Serious question: Who’s partnering with all these writers to ensure their work is a worthwhile contribution to the web? I’ve spent a lot of time perusing job boards and LinkedIn hiring announcements in recent months, and one thing is clear: Businesses are hiring far more writers than editors. Writers are great. I love a strong writer. I claim that title myself on occasion. But please hear me on this: Even great writers need an editor. I’ve worked with some of the best over the years, and they welcomed my feedback. Why? They knew they couldn’t look at their work with an objective lens. They knew their eyes glossed over key areas for improvement. They knew they struggled with a particular sentence or paragraph and needed another brain to help them work through it (two heads are better than one and all that). Editing is not glamorous work. It’s heads-down, behind-the-scenes, you’ll-never-believe-how-much-thought-I-put-into-this-seemingly-small-editorial-decision work. But it’s so important. It advocates for both the reader and the writer. It prioritizes accuracy. It champions originality. It fights for clarity and consistency. All told, it safeguards your company’s reputation. Guys, I need your opinion on something I've noticed a lot during my first month on this platform. It seems that many so-called "content writers" and "job seekers" don’t actually read. Recently, I’ve seen several posts where the comment section just makes me laugh. Take, for example, a hiring post seeking a ‘Financial Content Writer’ and then the comments are flooded with things like, "Hi, I’m an academic content writer with X years of experience. I’d love to send you some of my stories." Wait…what? How does academic content match with financial writing? 🤔 But it doesn’t stop there! The one that cracked me up the most was a post explaining why we shouldn’t apply for certain job ads. And guess what? The comments were full of "I’m interested" or "I’ve been a writer for X years, here’s my experience." Am I missing something here? 😂 Is there a bot somewhere sending these messages automatically, or do these people just not read the post? If it’s the latter, how can we trust them to write quality content if they can’t do something as basic as reading and understanding instructions? Truly flabbergasted at the lengths recruitment companies go to to filter out the 'best of the best'. It must be the twilight zone if you think I'm actually going to waste 60 minutes of my time trying to prove my six years worth of experience because it doesn't align with the selection process you've put in place to chase away, ahem, 'attract' top-notch candidates. Hiring alert: Content writers wanted for bulk work. 20-35ppw and weekly payouts of 20-30k! But wait! Before you think my company or I are pulling such stunts, let me tell you that this isn't our ad. But some "companies" are. They don't value the work that goes into writing a piece of persuasive content, and they definitely don't understand that the age of slave labor is over. So, let's delve into some math, shall we? According to my calculations, the company (a real one BTW) wants a content writer to publish an average of 80 articles per week, each of 1000 words, just to earn the minimum that they promise! That's more than 11 articles per day! Seems unrealistic? Maybe. Do people comment "interested" on such posts every single minute? You bet they do!
