Planning permission was granted unanimously by Southwark Planning Committee (Major Applications) last night, for an innovative office scheme involving the redevelopment of two buildings and an adjoining listed building. The Terrapin Group has been working as part of the client team for 4-5 Paris Garden and 18-19 Hatfields, SE1 8ND. The scheme by Tate Hindle Architects was meticulously designed and received compliments from the planning officers. In Southwark, councillors are very keen to ensure that consultation has been thorough and has reached all the right people. Our colleague, Dave Clark was called on to talk councillors through the consultation and feedback received, prior to receiving planning committee approval. The application involved the part demolition and part retention, refurbishment, and extension of 4-5 Paris Garden, together with demolition and redevelopment of 18-19 Hatfields, to provide a five to eleven storey building with basement. Also, approval of a listed building consent application for structural and remedial works, and repairs to the flank wall of 17 Hatfields. The planning approval will see an expertly crafted new office building with high quality office floorspace, including on-site affordable workspace, an attractive new east-west public link through the site and enhanced areas of landscaped public realm. The vast majority of these were A+A (alteration/addition) consents (85%) and typically represented fit-outs in this category.
