Allocate is hiring an important new position for our growing investment and research team! Since late 2021, we have provided users curated opportunities in over 60 managers and co-investments. For manager opportunties, >30% have been emerging managers. Allocate users have deployed nearly $700MM into these opportunities. I read something remarkable today. Lacework will be purchased by Wiz for a price that is over 90% less than its prior valuation. Over 90%. How did this happen? I'll posit it is because we look around and see others doing it - and we say that's good enough for me - I'm in. Yes I know there are other factors including abundant and cheap liquidity...but that wouldn't really help the intent of this post...so bear with me. So along that vein, one of the things I do appreciate about our Cap Table is the geographic diversity. Mercury and Integr8d Capital are from Houston. Harbert Management Corporation is from Richmond, Va; Piper Sandler is from Minneapolis, MN. Of course we have both coasts represented with Lytical Ventures and Silver Lake. Finally, we have HTGF | High-Tech Gründerfonds out of Germany. It's not so much the geography but the diversity of thought it represents. It's my observation that epochs of excellence or ingenuity have always been preceded by an influx of people or ideas from differing backgrounds into the region. We should embrace the idea of listening to folks that have ideas that are dissimilar to our own. Graylog's investor geographic dispersion does represent a check and balance on how we perceive the tech world we are in (and I think that's kind of cool and in fact healthy for us). In that regard - have a look at this opening below - come work in a vibrant and diverse Houston. Alternatively, I'm over-indexing on all of this, and what Aziz Gilani is really trying to tell me is he's tired of talking to me so he needs some help.

I’ve been peeking under the hood of how VC’s are structured and here’s what I found You’ll want to know the size of a fund and what areas they invest in but it also pays to understand the role hierarchy to know who to speak to if you are: ▪ Fundraising ▪ CTO where they’re a major stakeholder ▪ Looking for your next role at a VC backed company Here’s what I learned about the job title hierarchy from top to bottom: 1️⃣ General Partner / Managing Partner / Founding Partner: Top 🐶responsible for high level strategic decision making and leadership in the firm. 2️⃣ Partner / VP: These are the Senior Execs who make final investment decisions and are responsible for the success of the firm. They raise funds, manage relationships with LPs 3️⃣ Principal: Senior members involved in deal sourcing, execution and portfolio management. 4️⃣ Associates: Involved in in-depth deal sourcing, due diligence and supporting the investment process. Usually have a few years experience in finance, consulting or related startup 5️⃣ Analyst: Entry level in a firm. Responsible for market research, initial deal screening and supporting due diligence. 6️⃣ Growth / Platform / Talent / Value Creation Team: These roles provide value to a fund’s portfolio companies. They often help providing strategic guidance and support This is highly simplified as funds come in very different shapes and sizes. What would you add?
