A couple of weeks ago, we opened the doors of our studio to an enthusiastic group of students from the University of Georgia - College of Environment + Design , inviting them to participate in a design charette for one of our exciting upcoming projects. This immersive experience offered a firsthand glimpse into a professional design studio's heartbeat, laying a foundation for their budding careers. Hosting these bright minds was an absolute delight, and we're thrilled by the energy and fresh perspectives they brought to our creative space. #ironwooddesigngroup #designcharette #futureofdesign #landscapearchitecture #design #community #culture

We believe that a home is far more than just a structure; it is a living, breathing vessel that nurtures the lives and relationships within it. A home should serve you and your loved ones, offering a space that fosters curiosity, wellness, and growth. It is a stage for life’s stories, where cherished memories unfold and lasting connections are built. Designed to age gracefully alongside its inhabitants, a well-crafted home becomes a part of your life’s journey, enriching your experiences and supporting the important relationships that define it. In every project, we see the transformative power of thoughtful design and the lasting impact it has on our clients’ lives. Our approach centers on creating spaces that not only reflect the unique values, interests, and passions of each client but also tell their family’s story. We are passionate about ensuring that the homes we create are more than just visually striking—they are designed to promote wellness and enhance the quality of living. Every detail, from layout to materials, contributes to a harmonious environment where well-being and beauty coexist. Rooted in a strong connection to place, our designs go beyond aesthetics. We craft spaces that resonate with the local culture, history, and landscape, blending seamlessly into their surroundings. By personalizing each design, we create homes that are not only a reflection of the client’s vision but also deeply connected to the community and environment they inhabit. This holistic approach results in homes that are meaningful, enduring, and life-enhancing. 🎙 Mark Erickson and Damon Hayes Couture 📽 Brendan Stephen Kane 📷 Hayden Pattullo 🏗 Matthew Kennedy #design #calgaryhomes #customhomes

🌿 Back from my digital detox! 🌟 Stepping away from screens has been a breath of fresh air, but now I’m ready to reconnect with all of you who’ve supported my journey and shared in life’s rollercoaster of experiences. This is my current sanctuary - my studio, and it’s my favorite one yet among the three I’ve had. 🫧 To me, a studio isn’t just a room; it’s a symbol that what we’re doing is important enough to have its own dedicated space. Here, I explore architecture, conduct research, and delve into photography - all fueling my passion for creativity. Over 12 years in this field, I’ve learned firsthand that the right workspace is CRUCIAL for fostering creativity and quality. Trying to create in an inadequate environment is like hindering our own potential. In the days to come, I’ll be sharing more about my projects, processes, and what inspires me daily. Get ready for an inside look into this incredible space! 📸✨ Got an idea? Let’s make it happen! DM #StudioLife #WorkspaceGoals #Creative #Honduras #architecture #zfu

Thank you, Via Collective, for the valuable insights into wayfinding strategies at Penn Station! One key takeaway: exceptional design operates quietly. For instance, a proficient wayfinding strategist's work ensures seamless navigation without drawing attention to poor signage. It's a guiding principle I aspire to—becoming an effective designer whose work seamlessly integrates, ensuring effortless user experiences without drawing attention. Whether in wayfinding or broader design, this approach remains fundamental.
You could call exploring NYC a 'Safari', which is exactly what Paul Benson's students did this semester while learning all about various aspects of the design while taking 'field trips' around NYC. Via Collective Principal & Wayfinding Strategist, Katie Osborn, led a tour of Penn Station during their “Design Safari”, a class within the Parsons School of Design - The New School in the Integrated Design program in the School of Design Strategies. Katie shared the "ins and outs" of wayfinding and shared how to apply the principles they're learning in class to real-world wayfinding scenarios. #viacollective #wayfinding #signage #parsons #parsonsschoolofdesign #thenewschool #design #nyc #pennstation

Today is #WorldIndustrialDesignDay (WIDD), a day commemorated annually to celebrate the power of design to strengthen economic, social, cultural & environmental development around the world and highlight the merits of the industrial design profession & its impact on quality life. 🌍🎨 The slogan for this year is ‘let’s get emotional’ to cheer for the spirit of emotional connections put into design processes and the emotions that these designs evoke in spectators and customers. 💖🎉 In a residential real estate space the best designs come from a team that deeply connects with the spaces, communities, and individuals they create for. It happens when you don't just design spaces but craft experiences that honor the full spectrum of human emotions and here's how one can leverage emotional intelligence in their design thinking endeavors: 🔍 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗘𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: Deep user research uncovers emotional needs (focus groups, surveys, observation). 🌳 𝗘𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴: Design promotes relaxation, joy, and belonging (nature access, social spaces, biophilic design). 🏘️ 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲: Homes and communities foster identity and connection (local architecture, interaction spaces). 🏠 𝗘𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗝𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆: Design caters to a range of emotions, from new-home excitement to familiar comfort. 🔄 𝗙𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 & 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Adaptable spaces accommodate changing needs and preferences. We must all echo WIDD's call to explore the emotions that drive us and shape our relationship with the spaces around us, our homes, our communities, our world. Let's celebrate the power of design to honour our emotions, to not just improve our lives, but to truly connect with them. 🌐💫 #WIDD #IndustrialDesign #DesignThinking #EmotionalDesign #DesignInnovation #CommunityDesign

This Thursday at MCEC! Looking forward to hearing from Libby Staggs presentation and then unpacking this important issue in our industry with these experts on the panel including Katherine Featherstone Product Aware asks suppliers questions around modern slavery - for example if they have had any incidences in their supply chain and if they have a Modern Slavery Action Plan. It may sound like a hard task to abolish modern day slavery but we felt this was such an important factor to highlight and prioritise when selecting products. We know that supply chains involve labour that can be hard to trace, but that doesn’t mean we can be complacent. Slavery is regrettably embedded in the history of the construction industry and continues today. Unfortunately many people forget about the construction industry when discussing these issues and instead focus on for example, only the fashion industry. Hopefully we can work together as an industry to end these harmful working conditions for other people, like ourselves, with families, who deserve respect. If you care about where and how your products are made, please ask your suppliers to answer the questions on www.productaware.com.au. Tickets to the event available here: https://lnkd.in/gp3QUDXV
I'm really looking forward to a meaningful Q&A session at the Green Design Show next Thursday. I'll be joined by Katherine Featherstone, Isabella Peppard Clark and Sasha Titchkosky and we'll be exploring "How can the Design Industry Help Stop Modern Slavery?" Can't wait to hear their thoughts, perspectives and ideas for meaningful action. If you're an architect, designer, retailer or product manufacturer and are keen to learn some key insights, I'd love to see you there. I've always believed that everything we interact with should evoke a certain vibe, a feeling that resonates within us. Whether it's the sleek lines of a sports car, the soaring majesty of an aircraft, or the inviting warmth of a well-designed home, good design and architecture have the power to stir emotions and create lasting impressions. However, in recent years, it seems that engineering and design have been leaning towards a more utilitarian approach, focusing solely on functionality and efficiency while neglecting the importance of emotion and feeling in a space. This shift has led me to ponder: How can we engineer and design spaces that not only serve their intended purpose but also evoke a tangible feeling within those who inhabit them? One key aspect lies in understanding the psychology of space. Just as colors can evoke specific emotions, so too can the design and layout of a space influence our mood and behavior. By carefully considering elements such as lighting, texture, scale, and flow, we can create environments that elicit a desired emotional response. Moreover, storytelling through design can play a pivotal role in crafting meaningful experiences. Every space has a narrative waiting to be told, whether it's the history of a building, the vision of its creators, or the aspirations of its inhabitants. By weaving these narratives into the fabric of our designs, we can imbue spaces with a sense of purpose and identity, allowing people to connect with them on a deeper level. Ultimately, engineering a feeling in a space requires a holistic approach that marries technical proficiency with artistic sensibility. It's about striking a balance between form and function, beauty and utility, to create environments that not only serve our practical needs but also enrich our lives in profound and meaningful ways. As architects and designers, it's our responsibility to champion this ethos and push the boundaries of what's possible. By embracing the power of emotion in our work, we can transform spaces into vibrant, dynamic, and soul-stirring environments that inspire, uplift, and resonate with all who encounter them. Let's continue to engineer not just structures, but experiences. Let's design not just spaces, but feelings. #Architecture #Design #Engineering #EmotionInDesign #SpacePsychology #StorytellingInDesign #CreatingFeelings #ArtAndEngineering #ArchitectsLife #fresharchitect #EntryLevel #OpenToWork
