We were honored to welcome Rear Adm. William Daly, director, Surface Warfare Division, N96, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations to NSCWDD. The visit began with a discussion with NSCWDD’s Deputy Technical Director Darren Barnes, SSTM, various department heads and leadership, providing a detailed overview of our latest technological improvements. The U.S. Navy is now shifting from compliance to readiness under its current Cyber Strategy. The Navy and Marine Corps cannot rely exclusively on traditional naval power in future maritime conflicts. While the foundational concepts of maritime warfare have not changed, we must fully account for new realities presented by cyberspace and the information environment. This requires embracing cyber and information warfare as core competencies for the naval services and recognizing their utility in maritime contexts. The actions we take – or neglect to take – during strategic competition directly impact our warfighting effectiveness, readiness, and ability to respond credibly to crises.

In the modern and future warfare, synergistic integration of all the nine national efforts of influence is essential. in addition to five military domains(land, Air, Sea, Cyberspace, and Space), the additional four national domains should also be effectively and continously integrated to achieve the optimal synergy. "While ALB and MDO share some common principles, the most notably similarly is their emphasis on synchronization of multiple efforts to create a greater synergy" from my upcoming article on operationalizing MDO.

The oceans cover three-fourths of the globe, but intelligence groups spend little time on the subject in relation to the security of corporations. However, there is a tremendous amount of risk when it comes to the water because of its relationship to everything from defense to the internet to the supply chain. Analysts need to follow issues like the naval power projection capabilities of great powers and how sub-state actors use the water to their advantage. This week’s intelligence requirements are intended to help analysts see issues beyond land-based geopolitics and security.
