In the 2022-2023 school year, a record-breaking 119,300 students were homeless in New York City (New York Times, 2023). This statistic is staggering. For more than 100,000 children in New York City, food, shelter, and security were not given circumstances of life. Although there is no easy fix to a crisis as significant as this, there are a number of organizations at the forefront of providing exceptional, holistic care - where youth experiencing homelessness have a place to go to not only have their basic needs met, but also have an opportunity to live fulfilled lives. That's why I've started a fundraiser for Covenant House - an organization dedicated to providing safe shelter and loving care for youth facing homelessness. Covenant House provides resources such as job training, education opportunities, legal aid, health care, and mental health counseling to support young people in achieving their goals. Please consider donating to this wonderful cause - any bit helps. Please find the link to contribute here: https://lnkd.in/eGdShNqj If this is a cause you care about, my company, Thesis, will be sponsoring and participating in the Annual Covenant House Sleep-Out. If you're interested in joining or finding out more about Covenant House or the Sleep-Out, you can learn more here: https://lnkd.in/eSsxCBZM
I'm giving up my bed in solidarity with youth facing homelessness.

I empower student success, mental wellness, and inclusion as an Educational Trainer & Trauma-Informed Consultant🧠|Advocate for student growth 📈|Follow for insights on Education, Mental Health, and empowering educators!
Allen, your experience with mentorship is a touching reminder of the impact we can make in others' lives. As a therapist-in-training and educator, I understand the trepidation and immense reward that comes with guiding someone through their struggles. And your story parallels the journey I've undertaken with my students and clients—often stepping into unknown territory, but always with the goal of fostering growth and resilience. It's a testament to the power of presence and support. Plus your call to action challenges us to step beyond our comfort zones, an idea that deeply resonates with me. 🤔 How might you step up to mentor someone in need, and in what ways could this relationship enrich your own life as well? #MentorshipMatters #CommunityConnection #MakeADifference
I get to mentor this young man, Jeremiah. The entire process of becoming a mentor to him almost exactly 6 years ago was one of the most gratifying and frightening things I have ever embarked on. We met at the shelter he lived in at the time with his mom and brothers. New Pathways for Youth connected me with him because they are so well connected to schools, social services, homeless shelters and programs throughout Phoenix where they know there are youth in crisis. If it has ever weighed on you to find a way to give back. If your new year's resolution is to get more connected in your community. If it scares the hell out of you to think about becoming a mentor because you don't know what their life is like, or you don't think you can relate, or you had a great upbringing and wouldn't know how to handle the situations these face. If you don't have the time or have your own kids or have never had kids. You are likely exactly who we need. You can help change the direction of someone's life simply by showing up. #BecomeAMentor

It is paramount that nonprofit organizations and schools serving east-side KC understand the condition that many of their families are in. I know they get tired of parent's lack of engagement or inconsistency. I know they get frustrated when parents fail to communicate or follow through on expectations. But we must understand our community has suffered extensive trauma. Many families are in a state of survival, with their days defined by constant and recurring crises. They are exploding unintentional trauma responses on the regular, and in some manner simply trapped in a fight, flight, freeze or fawn state of being. Their capacity to add any extra thing to their plate is simply not available. Even if it would benefit themselves of their children, they can't see outside of the overwhelm of the moment right in front of them. Many providers say that "the parents are the problem," but maybe the problem is our service providers lack of understanding: 1. The culture of poverty and how it encases and influences families 2. The extent of how trauma has impacted and wired their systems of being 3. How to appropriately create safety, secure belonging and support families through authentic relationships to rewire their systems of survival Maybe if we didn't write off parents as "stuck in their ways" and helped them see the origin of "their ways," these parents would be able to create new ways for themselves and their children to thrive. #communitydevelopment #mentalhealthawareness #eastsidekc

As a Sr. Financial Consultant for Expats I advise clients working in Germany 🇩🇪 with: Tax Savings💵, Investments📊💡, Insurances☔, Real Estate🏡, Passive Income📈, Private Pensions 💰💎 & personalized Financial Plan🎯
𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐧 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐚 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐪𝐮𝐞 𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐞𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐡 𝐞𝐲𝐞𝐬, 𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐨𝐮𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐜𝐲𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐦 𝐨𝐫 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐣𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐞. When confronted with the sight of someone experiencing homelessness, their reactions are often pure and instinctive. Some children are immediately drawn to compassion. They see a fellow human being in need and feel a strong urge to help. This innate empathy can be heartwarming to witness. They might ask questions about the person's situation, express concern, or even offer to share their belongings. Children at this age often have a strong sense of fairness and justice, and the sight of someone without a home can challenge their understanding of the world. However, other children may react with fear or confusion. The unfamiliar and often unsettling appearance of a homeless person can be overwhelming for young minds. They may withdraw, avoiding eye contact or asking questions that reveal their lack of understanding. This response is not a reflection of their character but rather a product of their limited life experiences. Ultimately, a child's response to homelessness is shaped by their environment and the guidance they receive. By fostering empathy and compassion from a young age, parents and caregivers can cultivate a generation of caring individuals. Children can be taught about the causes of homelessness, the challenges faced by those experiencing it, and how they can make a difference. Through age appropriate volunteer opportunities, such as collecting food or clothing for a homeless shelter, children can develop a sense of responsibility and a belief in their ability to impact the world around them. 🤝Follow 👉 Dreiser Gonzalez ✅ for more such content🎉 and tips on:Real Estate 🏡 in Germany 🇩🇪, Investments 📈, Insurances ☔️, & Financial Planning 🧮 Disclaimer: I don't own this video; all rights/credits go to the owner. Few factors are more critical to a child’s well-being than the consistent presence of caring adults in their lives and a physically and emotionally safe environment. We recently distributed $145,000 in grants to nonprofits who are walking alongside local families with supportive services. From building community for single parents, to family mental health care, to birthing classes and post-partum care, these grants create a strong foundation for local children and families. https://lnkd.in/gB4WZtHT

Save the Date! The Big Give 2024 will occur on September 18th and 19th with the early giving period opening tomorrow. This year, Haven for Hope is raising funds to support our families who currently call Haven their home. Haven has seen a marked increase in families experiencing homelessness in the past two years. Haven’s 92-room family residential program is always full, and five years ago, Haven began our Family Emergency Services (FES) to serve overflow families for up to 30 days. The program, designed for 25 families, saw a record number of 89 families during the summer of 2023. The reason for homelessness varies for every client/family in Haven. Substance use is one reason for homelessness or can be the result of homelessness. Twenty-two percent of our clients self-report having a substance use problem. Nationally, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) estimates that roughly 38% of those experiencing homelessness suffer from an alcohol dependency while 26% abuse drugs. We appreciate your continued support of our mission and our families at Haven for Hope. #havenforhope #hopeliveshere #biggivesa #biggive2024
