I think there can be no doubt in anyone's mind that there is a huge benefit if you engage in what I call the "pay to play" model. Companies with deep pockets flush with investor capital will have a tremendous advantage over smaller operations. Not everyone can foot the 5-15k monthly retainer for lobbyists. By the same token, you can't deny that paying for lobbyists does't give you a huge ROI. I guess to really figure out the math would be to compare all the new legislation currently being enacted in the school safety and security space and see how much of that was organic and benefits fair trade thereby giving equal opportunities to anyone and everyone vs. creating a monopoly in the space and identifying sole source vendors essentially funneling business to single entities under the guise that it benefits and is for "global security". Dr. Kenneth S. Trump did an excellent post and article related to this exact query. It is a worthwhile and enlightening read. While I think that many companies have products that can benefit the greater good, those with lobbyists included, if you find yourself in the same space as one with a lobbyist you need to strategize about how you're going to be able to compete let alone stay in business. A primary focus of school security is keeping weapons out of the school building with scanners, video analytics systems, metal detectors, and bag searches. At the same time, some schools also have a cache of weapons inside the building for the SRO or trained staff to access during a school shooting. If the weapons are stored in the SRO’s office, there may be an electronic card reader on the door so that multiple staff members or the first arriving police officers can quickly get inside. Rather than sneaking guns into the school, if an attacker can hack the electronic door lock and access the weapon cache, these guns will be accessible. In addition to weapons, there may also be police radios, body armor, helmets, and ballistic shields that can protect the attacker against arriving patrol officers. -- Aside from school shooting plots, there is a whole lot of mayhem and mischief that students can carry out with access to every part of the school building and control of any wireless device inside it. School officials need to keep track of innovative and disruptive products that impact school security systems. Luckily, you can subscribe and share these articles, and I’ll do my best to keep track of these trends for you.

“Wary of vendors with no meaningful third party validation, little evidence of operational execution, and few (if any) valid customer references…” When considering AI based gun detection, do your homework 📋Ask hard questions 🧐 - Who does your monitoring? - Is this service in-house or contracted to a 3rd party sourced monitoring company? - What is the procedure for non-lethal firearms? - What is the procedure for law enforcement detections? - What is the background/ experience of the individuals doing the monitoring? May I visit your operations center? The answers (or lack thereof) may surprise you.
Props to the State of Nebraska legislature for authorizing and appropriating funding for both public and private K-12 schools.
